Meanwhile, Southampton have officially confirmed the sacking of Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
The Saints were booed off the field following their woeful 4-1 defeat to Newcastle.
And Hasenhuttl ultimately paid the price which means that first-team lead coach Ruben Selles has been announced as interim gaffer.

The Reds under FSG
FSG have been the majority owners of Liverpool since 2010 and after appointing Jurgen Klopp as manager have gone on to win every trophy available.
The most notable of these was breaking the club's three-decade wait for a top-flight title.
Liverpool have made it to three Champions League finals under Klopp and FSG but been on the receiving end of defeats to Real Madrid on two occasions while beating Tottenham in the 2019 final.
However, the owners of the club have regularly been criticised by fans for a lack of investment in the first team.
So what has happened at Liverpool under the stewardship of FSG? (details via The Athletic)
- Anfield has been transformed, with a new £110million Main Stand,
- Anfield Road Stand redevelopment – £80m project will be completed next summer and boost capacity to around 61,000.
- Move from Melwood to a new £50m training facility in Kirkby.
Liverpool up for sale
Liverpool FC have been put up for sale by owners Fenway Sports Group, according to The Athletic.
In a statement, FSG said: "There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool.
“FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool.
"FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club.
“FSG remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch.”
The group, who have owned Liverpool since 2010 have prepared a full sales presentation for any interested parties.
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have been retained to assist with the process.
Wreck it Ralph
Southampton have sacked under-fire boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.
The Saints swung the axe after Hasenhuttl's side were booed off following the 4-1 home defeat to Newcastle on Sunday.
Part of a club statement said: "Hasenhuttl, who was appointed in December 2018, departs having made a significant contribution to the club, overseeing some memorable results and also playing a key role in the development of our club infrastructure, identity and playing squad.
"However, we now believe it is an appropriate time to make a change.
"Everyone involved with the club would like to express their sincere thanks to Ralph for all of his efforts, as well as the unwavering commitment he has shown throughout his time as manager."

2020 final repeat
The other headliner tie is between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
The pair have regularly tussled in out in the latter stages of the competition in recent years.
Bayern edged out PSG in the 2020 final thanks to a Kingsley Coman strike.
But in their most recent encounter PSG knocked Bayern out in the quarter-finals thanks to scoring more away goals – a rule no longer in place in the competition.
