The global coronavirus crisis has seen sports grind to a complete standstill.
And a decision to postpone Euro 2020 for one year was made so various football leagues can eventually complete their seasons, most likely behind closed doors.
However, Uefa have decided not to rebrand the tournament as Euro 2021.
And that’s led to snorts of derision from bemused netizens who believe there’s a cynical reason behind the decision to keep the year 2020 in the title.
One Twitter user replied to the news saying: “What’s the point if it’s 2021?
“Are you really that lazy to design a new logo?
“How do I tell my son that I was watching Euro 2020 a few months before I was playing Fifa 22?
“He’ll ask to see my Tardis.”
Another wrote: “So It’s Euro 2020 that will be played in 2021. That makes sense, okay.”
One mused: “Love that. This will make for great quiz questions in 50 years’ time!”
