JUSTIN LANGER has gone from 5/1 to ODDS-ON favourite to become England’s next Test coach.

Langer is priced at 5/6 to replace Chris Silverwood just days after resigning as Australia's head coach.

The 51-year-old's contract with Australia was set to expire in June but Langer walked away after rejecting a short-term extension.

England are on the lookout for a new head coach after Silverwood was sacked after England's shocking display during the Ashes.

England legend Paul Collingwood has been named the interim head coach for the West Indies Test series.

Langer revamped Australia's cricket team following their ball-tampering scandal in 2018 and has guided them to winning the Ashes and the T20 World Cup.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Just days after walking away from Australia, Justin Langer is the 5/6 odds-on favourite to become England’s next permanent Test coach and he certainly knows a thing or two about this England side having guided the Aussies to a 4-0 Ashes victory this winter.

“Gary Kirsten was the previous favourite but is now 9/4 to replace Chris Silverwood, with Alex Stewart next at 3/1, Paul Collingwood 7/2 and another famous Aussie, Ricky Ponting, is 5/1.”

Langer's ruthless and intense style of management could be exactly what England need after they were outclassed by Langer's side.

Former England captain and current interim director of English cricket Andrew Strauss saying: "I wouldn’t rule him out."

With Langer now a free agent, reports are suggesting England could break the bank and bring the Australian in as their highest paid coach of all time.
