AJAX have sacked Director of Football Sven Mislintat with immediate effect.

An official statement from the club read: "Ajax has ended the collaboration with Director of Football Sven Mislintat with immediate effect.

"The lack of broad support within the organisation is the reason behind this decision."

Mislintat's dismissal comes amid serious unrest among the club and it's supporters.

On Sunday, Ajax's Eredivisie clash with Feyenoord was abandoned after flares were thrown onto the pitch.

With the score at 3-0 to Feyenoord in the 55th minute, fans began disrupting the match in a bid to get it suspended by throwing "fireworks" onto the field of play.

And when the referee did eventually end the game prematurely, some disgruntled supporters continued to show their frustration by vandalising the Johan Cruyff Arena in a huge riot.

One of the entrances to the stadium was left completely destroyed after being targeted by hooded thugs.

Riot police were called to the scene and some fans were charged at by horses.

The police used tear gas in a bid to disperse the large crowd of protesters.

Ajax later condemned the protests.

A statement from the club read: "The management and Supervisory Board of Ajax distance themselves from the misconduct that led to the abandonment of the match against Feyenoord on Sunday and the disturbances afterwards. This is not the behaviour that belongs to Ajax.

"Disappointment about the poor start to the season is completely understandable, but should never be the reason for disturbances.

"We apologise to anyone who has felt unsafe or has been bothered by this in any other way."

Tensions at the Johan Cruyff Arena have been mounting for weeks amid the club's poor start to the season.

Ajax currently sit 13th in the Eredivisie table with one win, one defeat and two draws in five games.

Manager Maurice Steijn has come under fire recently for the club's poor form.

Mislintat has also received heavy criticism from fans.

The club's interim CEO has put the former Arsenal chief scout's departure down to a lack of broad support.

Jan van Halst said: "Several attempts to restore broad support have not led to the desired outcome. This leads to unrest in and around the club, also due to the disappointing results.
