It’s the sea Lions! England stars head to beach, cool down in ice baths and get back to business in training after kicking off Women’s World Cup with win over rivals Scotland

  • England beat Scotland 2-1 in first game of their World Cup campaign
  • Nikita Parris and Ellen White struck in first half before Claire Emslie consolation
  • After the match the players took time to recover with a dip in the sea in France
  • They are now preparing for their next match against Argentina on June 14

England’s players celebrated victory over Scotland in their opening Women’s World Cup match with a dip in the sea – before returning to training ahead of their next match against Argentina on June 14.

Nikita Parris’ penalty and an Ellen White goal ensured the Lionesses took all three points despite being pegged back by Claire Emslie’s late strike to begin their tournament in positive fashion.

While the team started well and established a lead, boss Phil Neville will be concerned with how nervy they looked after conceding in the second half.

Following the match, players including Karen Bardsley, Rachel Daly, Leah Williamson and Carly Telford made time to go for a dip in the sea near their Nice base.

Other members of the squad, including captain Steph Houghton and right-back Lucy Bronze, endured ice baths as part of their recovery process.

Neville’s side are already back in training following the  Scotland game, and have been put through their paces at the Stade Charles-Ehrmann training base.

Left-back Demi Stokes, who did not feature in the Scotland match, was back in training with the squad and will hope to feature in the remaining squads.

Manchester City’s 19-year-old keeper Ellie Roebuck also took part in the session despite not being named in Neville’s World Cup squad.
