McGregor broke his leg in the first round of his much-anticipated trilogy fight with the American as he was declared the loser through doctor stoppage in Las Vegas.
There was plenty of bad blood in the build up to the meeting, with the Irishman tweeting a video to back up his claims Poirier’s wife Jolie had tried to message him on his Instagram, with the captions: ‘#SheLyinToYouBro #ThatsWifey #ProperIrishAnimal’.

There had been plenty of trash-talking by McGregor about Jolie (right) prior to the fight
The taunts continued post-fight with Jolie exacting her revenge as she was spotted showing a middle finger to the Notorious as lay unable to stand up following Poirier’s victory.
But McGregor then once again claimed ‘Your wife is in my DMs’ as the Irishman seemed in no mood to accept defeat as the trash-talking continued.
He said: ‘I was boxing the bleedin’ head off him, kicking the bleedin’ leg off him.Usual s***e, dive to close the distance. This is not over. I have to take this outside with him, it’s on.
‘I don’t give a b******s. There was no check. There was not one of them was a check.

UFC president Dana White confirmed that McGregor fractured his tibia and will undergo surgery on Sunday morning and suggested he was open to fourth fight, while McGregor has insisted he will continue the rivalry.
White said: ‘You can’t have a fight finish that way, so we will see how this thing plays out. Who knows how long Conor will be out. Poirier will do his thing until Conor is ready.’

It is another failed attempt at redemption for McGregor after Poirier also ensured it was a horror UFC comeback in January with a devastating second-round stoppage at Fight Island despite promising a 60-second triumph.
The 32-year-old was dropped within two minutes and 32 seconds by Poirier to level the series following McGregor’s 2014 victory, with the American now on top following Sunday’s victory.
