WBC king Deontay Wilder has sensationally claimed that Tyson Fury only split from ex-trainer Ben Davison so he could use it as an excuse for his defeat in their rematch.
The unbeaten British heavyweight parted ways with Davison in December, before immediately linking up with Sugar Hill Steward ahead of the February 22 bout.
The former unified champ, 31, is targeting a knockout victory against the Bronze Bomber next week in Las Vegas, but his old trainer believes his risky gameplan could backfire.
And Wilder has declared that Fury is already preparing himself for excuses should he fail to have his hand raised at the end of their fight.
Speaking to ThaBoxingVoice, he said: "A lot of stuff that he’s doing is making me feel like he’s setting up an excuse for when he lose.
“The weight thing – I don’t wanna hear nothing about being out of shape or, ‘He didn’t have enough time to get in shape.’
“All these trainers around – I don’t wanna hear when I knock him out that, ‘If he had Ben it would’ve been better.’
“I don’t wanna hear no excuses. I already feel like all this stuff that’s going on is going to be bent around as excuses. We’ll see what happens."
Before adding: "When you have bad habits, it’s hard to correct. Sometimes it takes years to correct bad habits.
“And it takes even longer when you ain’t used to that, when you ain’t worked with that person.”
Fury insisted the switch of trainers was because he was "going stale" under Davison, and stated he needed a fresh change in his bid to win the famous green and gold belt.
Tyson's dad John lambasted Davison following his son's points win against Otto Wallin as he called for him to be sacked.
Davison revealed over the weekend that he will be at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to watch the rematch, while he also said he would be open to working with Fury again.
