Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham took to Instagram to express his joy after the team beat the New York Red Bulls 2-0 in Lionel Messi’s Major League Soccer debut.

While the former England soccer star was not in attendance, he still took the time to praise his side as it returned to MLS action following its recent cup success.

‘Where dreams are made of…’ read Beckham’s caption, alongside a series of photos from the game. ‘Thank you NYC. Great win on the road @intermiamicf’

Messi did not start the game and entered as a substitute at the 60-minute mark after Tata Martino decided to rest his star man.

Since joining Miami back in July, Messi has been one of the key players to accumulate a large amount of minutes through Miami’s unexpected run through the Leagues Cup and US Open Cup match.

Lionel Messi continued his amazing run of form for Miami and scored in his MLS debut

Leading up to the match, Miami manager Tata Martino would not confirm if Messi was in the starting lineup for the game against NYRB, after previously indicating that the World Cup winner would need rest at ‘some point’ during the week.

Miami’s run through the Leagues Cup – that even Martino admitted he did not see coming – has seen Messi start his career with the team in outstanding form.

Since first debuting for Miami, he has gone on to score 11 goals in the span of nine games.

He added to that total in the closing minutes of the game against New York after he scored a open-net tap-in the 89th minute after a beautiful piece of play between himself and breakout Miami star Benjamin Cremaschi.

Miami’s next game as they try to climb out of the basement of the MLS table will be against Nashville in a rematch of the US Open Cup semifinal played earlier this week. That matchup went all the way to penalty kicks in a tightly-contested affair that Miami were able to pull off.

The win against the Red Bulls only moved Miami to 21 points which is still the third lowest in the entire league and Messi and his teammates still face a challenge to make it to the playoffs.

Beckham wasn’t in attendance at Red Bull Arena Wednesday, despite being an almost permanent fixture at Inter Miami’s games throughout its Leagues Cup run.

The former Manchester United star appeared to be enjoying a family vacation in Croatia instead.

His wife Victoria took to Instagram on Saturday to give an insight into their family holiday, sharing a sweet snap with her husband

Victoria also posted a sweet picture of Beckham sharing a hug with their daughter Harper, while the fashion designer also posed with their youngest child

The former footballer had been enjoying a lavish yacht trip with his wife Victoria, 49, and their youngest children Cruz, 18, and Harper, 12.

On Friday, Victoria took to Instagram to document their family getaway, sharing a sweet picture of her and Beckham packing on the PDA.

And Beckham and Cruz took some time away from the yacht as they larked about on a paddleboard and a fliteboard – an electrically powered surfboard.

Beckham showed off his muscular frame and tattooed chest as he went shirtless in black shorts while practicing his skills on a paddleboard.

Beckham continued to show off his buzzcut after he returned to his short hairstyle earlier this month – a look reminiscent of his 2000s Manchester United days.

He also cheered on his son Cruz, who sported red boardshorts, as he attempted to stay on his feet on a fliteboard.

His daughter Harper was also seen swimming in the sea as they spent some quality time together during the sun-soaked getaway.

Victoria and Beckham’s eldest sons Brooklyn, 24, and Romeo, 20, were not present on the family holiday.
