Darts icon Andy Smith – nicknamed ‘The Pie Man’ – has stunned fans with his miraculous body transformation.

The three-time World Grand Prix quarter-finalist won six PDC Pro Tour titles, having joined the organisation in 2004. Now 56, he has not returned to the Tour since losing his PDC Tour Card in December 2016.

During his career, Smith was a staple of the darting scene. His Weird Al Yankovic walk-on music and personality helped endear him to fans.

New pictures of the Midlands thrower have now appeared online showing him looking considerably more trim than that 20-stone player fans remembered from his playing days.

Smith appeared almost unrecognisable, with his supporters taking to Twitter to laud his wild weight transformation.

Former PDC pro Matthew Edgar tweeted: “Got to be one of the most amazing transformations I’ve ever seen. Andy ‘Pie Man’ Smith may need a new nickname if he returns to darts.”

Another Twitter user wrote: “Wowsers amazing Andy Smith, get him back playing darts,” while a third commented: “Go the pieman !! Amazing transformation good on ya Andy !!”

A fourth added: “What a guy! I doth my cap,” while others said: “Good for him, he looks great,” and “He’s ageing backwards looking younger.”

Among Smith’s highlights were three UK Open last-16 spots, and entering the 2005 event as the top seed – though he was beaten by Roland Scholten in the fifth round.

He explained in 2020 how arm injuries had blocked his path back to darts, saying he had ripped a bicep tendon three years earlier while playing on the Tour.
