Darts entertainer Ricky Evans has left fans in hysterics by jokingly claiming he has ‘turned down’ a Premier League spot for bingo and Europa League football.
While the likes of Joe Cullen, Luke Humphries and Ross Smith have been left devastated by their omission from the annual darting roadshow, sharing their disappointment on social media, Evans has added a touch of comedy to the fallout.
Of course, the world number 48 wasn’t a genuine contender for a Premier League spot, even if his character and style of play would be well-suited to the tournament, which showcases the sport around the UK and Europe.

‘Rapid’, widely known as the fastest player in the sport, tweeted: “Had to turn down the premier league this year… Thursday nights just aren’t for me…. Free & Easy night at Gala Bingo & Europa League int it.”
There may be a tinge of truth to the Europa League reference as Evans is a fan of Manchester United, who have become accustomed to taking part in the UEFA’s second-tier competition, which is played on Thursday nights, in recent seasons.
The tweet left fans in hysterics, with one replying: “Love the Phoenix nights reference [laughing face emojis].”
Another joked: “Speed that you throw I think you’d make it back for the early kick offs.”

A third added: “Hoped for a different walk on each week, but understand your difficult decision.”
Another fan wrote: “Fair one mate, priorities in order! [laughing face emoji].”
The Premier League line-up, which was confirmed on Monday, has certainly proved to be controversial, with Jonny Clayton, Dimitri Van den Bergh, Nathan Aspinall and Masters winner Chris Dobey joining the world’s top four of Michael Smith, Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price.
