THE prize money for the BDO World Darts Championship has finally been confirmed with the men's winner landing just £23,000.
Wayne Warren lifted the title on Sunday after his 7-4 victory over Jim Williams in the final.
But he did not know how much he would receive after becoming the oldest darts world champion at the age of 57.
As SunSport told you last week, cash-strapped BDO chiefs were preparing a major cut in the prize money.
And it has now been confirmed that the prize money for the winner has been cut from £100,000 last year to £23,000 – a drop of a massive £77,000.
The runner-up will land £10,000 this year compared to £25k in 2019 with semi-finalists netting £5,000, quarter-finalists £4,000 and players who lost in the round of 16 taking home £3,000.
Losing in the second round saw players receive £2,000 and a first-round exit meant just £1,500.
On the women's side, meanwhile, winner Mikuru Suzuku landed just £10,000 and the runner-up Lisa Ashton got £4,500.
A semi-final spot earned players £2,000, with £1,000 for reaching the quarter-finals.
And for the women that lost in the first round, the round of 16, they will pocket a measly £500.
The total prize fund for the men was £127,000 and just £26,500 for the women.
'TOTAL DISGRACE'
To make matters worse, the bungling BDO's letter confirming the prize money had two typos as chairman Des Jacklin comes under increasing pressure to resign – or the organisation could die.
Less than a week before the tournament began, Jacklin wrote to players, admitting he could not guarantee promised prize pools, blaming poor ticket sales and rising TV production costs.
And Jacklin refused to reveal how much he would pay the stars when quizzed by SunSport at the Indigo at London's O2 Arena, where the tournament was held following the move from Lakeside.
He also said that he does not "have to pay anybody until the second week in February" despite the championships finishing on January 12.
And fans were quick to pile more anger towards the BDO after the prize money was leaked.
