ARSENAL suffered their second defeat of the Premier League season at the hands of Everton – and some fans were not pleased with Jorginho's debut.

The Toffees scored within a minute of Jorginho coming on to replace Thomas Partey.

And a fan went as far accusing the January signing of 'sabotaging' Arsenal's title race.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta reportedly has interest in signing Real Madrid star Marco Asensio whose agents are said to be flying into London this week.

And keep up to date with the latest reaction to Arsenal's damming defeat to relegation battling Everton.

    Good morning Arsenal fans

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was brutally honest about his side’s deficiencies in their 1-0 loss to Everton.

He said: “I think Everton were really good and we have to congratulate them first for the way they have turned things around. I think they won the game because they were really efficient.

“From our side, [we’re] disappointed because obviously we didn’t get the result that we wanted but the performance doesn’t reflect what we’ve been doing.

“Especially in two phases – one when they were really direct, and we struggled to control that type of game and get back on track and the game we wanted to play.

“Then with the amount of open situations that we generated in the final third that has to finish with goals and clear-cut chances much more than we did today.”

However, Arteta also revealed how proud he is to coach his players, despite Arsenal crashing to defeat.

“I told them today I love them much more than a week ago and six months ago,” he said.

“It’s easy to be next to someone when they’re winning and playing well.

“Now is the moment to be next to them – they deserve it.

“I’m so proud to coach these players.”

Arteta was allegedly forced to pull Oleksandr Zinchenko off the pitch after Arsenal’s loss at Goodison Park.

The Ukrainian had been involved in an altercation with Neal Maupay towards the end of the game, and it has been suggested that the arguments continued after the full-time whistle.

The Telegraph reporter Sam Dean tweeted: “Arteta dragging Zinchenko off the pitch after the final whistle.

“The Arsenal left-back had a few things he wanted to say to some Everton players.”

Arsenal fans may be smarting from losing to Everton, but one of their stars is promising a response next week.

Brazil centre back Gabriel took to Twitter to declare he wants his side to return to winning ways again next week.

He tweeted: “We win together, we lose together!!! full focus next saturday… thanks gunners for the support…”

Arsenal take on Brentford next Saturday at the Emirates.

The agents of Marco Asensio will jet in to London next week to discuss the possibility of a move to the Premier League, according to reports.

The 27-year-old’s future at Real Madrid is in doubt – with his contract expiring in the summer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is said to be a big admirer of his talents.

According to the Mirror, he is looking for an increase on his £118,000-per-week salary, as well as a four year contract.

    Merson slams Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has run out of ideas after the loss to Wolves.

That is according to Arsenal legend Paul Merson, who issued a brutal assessment of the Reds' performance following their 3-0 loss to Julen Lopetegui's side at Molineux.

Merson told Sky Sports: "First time I’ve seen Klopp just sitting there…

"I don’t like the word 'lost', he’s not lost but I don’t think he knows what else to do now.

"I think he’s watching this time and it is a million miles off where they were last year, a million miles.

“I think he’ll wait until the Champions League, I think he’ll wait for the Real Madrid game.

"If he gets a couple of players fit such as [Virgil] Van Dijk then it’s a different game if they go and beat Real Madrid over two legs.

“Watching this I don’t see them doing that. Without Van Dijk, [Joel] Matip and [Joe] Gomez don’t look the same players without him.

"The full-backs have lost their way and the midfield’s getting overrun.

“You’re looking at players who were consistently 8 or 9/10 last year who are now consistently 4 or 5/10 now.”

    Points dropped

Newcastle have dropped two points at home – dropping their 10th game of the season.

They got off to a flying start – scoring after just two minutes through Callum Wilson.

However, West Ham clawed themselves level through Lucas Paqueta.

And excellent rear-guard action from the Hammers in the second half saw them hold on for the draw.

    Half-time

Newcastle are level at the break against West Ham.

With Arsenal dropping points at the top after losing to Everton, the Toon will want all three points to close the gap on the leaders.

However, it's 1-1 at the break – with Callum Wilson opening the scoring, before Lucas Paqueta equalised.

    Ferdinand still backs Arsenal

Rio Ferdinand believes that Arsenal are still the favourites to win the Premier League despite their loss to Everton.

He told BT Sports: "Arsenal, we have been sitting here all of us believing they can win this league and I put them as favourites and I still put them as favourites and edge them slightly.

"It’s a real psychological test for them now though, how do they handle this bump in the road?

"It’s a big learning curve for them.

"I think they’ve come up against that type of low block quite often but the aggression I saw today, teams haven’t been able to get close enough to Arsenal to play like this.

"They play so slick and play through teams.

"These are the moments and times where you want your star man and game changer to turn up and produce and that can sometimes override the system."

    Ratings

It was far from a perfect performance for the Gunners as they fell to defeat at Everton.

James Tarkowski got the winning goal as Arsenal struggled to look like their usual, intense, faultless selves.

    Toff Nut to Crack

Sean Dyche started his Everton reign with a bang – and put a big dent in Arsenal’s title bid.

The former Burnley boss saw two of his former Turf Moor players, Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski, combine for the second-half set-piece goal that decided the game.

The Gunners’ second Premier League defeat of the season, and the manner of it, will have alarm bells ringing.

Mikel Arteta’s team were outmuscled and outwitted by committed and intense hosts who thoroughly deserved their victory.

    Damaging Defeat

It's over at Everton and Arsenal have lost in the Premier League for the first time since September.

Sean Dyche managed to summon an immediate response from his players and the Gunners were outfought by the Toffees.

It's the first major bump in the road since Arsenal began to be seriously considered as title contenders and after the FA Cup loss last week, it's back-to-back defeats for the Gunners.

Manchester City can close the gap to two points tomorrow with a win at Tottenham.

    Goal at Goodison

James Tarkowski has given Everton the lead at Goodison at the hour mark.

He's scored his first goal for the Toffees with a header for a corner as Arsenal are punished for a slack performance.

Big half an hour for the Gunners on Merseyside.

    Second-Half Underway

Arsenal will need to improve at a raucous Goodison Park if they are to take all three points in the second-half.

Mikel Arteta has had his say at half-time but now it's time for his players to remind everyone why they are league leaders.

Second-half text commentary can be followed with us here.

    Goalless at Goodison

Somehow it's 0-0 between Everton and Arsenal in the Premier League despite major chances at both ends.

The home side have been the better team and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be kicking himself after failing to convert two great chances.

At the other end Conor Coady had to clear a Bukayo Saka effort off the line while Eddie Nketiah lashed over the bar from close range.

Everton have been fired-up and intense in Sean Dyche's first game while the Gunners have been uncharacteristcally limp and passive.

All to play for in a second-half which can be followed here.

    Bad Away Record

Arsenal are looking to end their Goodison Park hoodoo this afternoon – with the Gunners not winning any of their last four trips to the blue half of Merseyside.

Their last game at the ground in 2021 saw Demarai Gray rattle home an injury time winner when life was looking less bright under Mikel Arteta.

Today Arsenal will be have favourites to win their first game at the ground since October 2017.

    Two Toffee Changes

Sean Dyche has made two changes to the Everton side that lost to West Ham two weeks ago for his first match in charge as Toffees boss against Arsenal

Yerry Mina and Demarai Gray have been replaced by Dwight McNeil and Abdoulaye Doucoure, who returns to the squad after reportedly having a bust-up with former manager Frank Lampard.

    Six Changes

There are six changes to Arsenal's starting XI from the team that lost at Manchester City in the FA Cup eight days ago.
