For as long as mankind has walked the earth, there’s been a longing for eternal youth.

Ancient peoples thought it was found in healing waters, plants and animal oils or even in yoga.

These days there’s no need to cultivate an herb garden or count sun salutations. Looking and feeling younger can be as simple as taking a trip.

In 1242 hunters discovered a hot spring in the Swiss Alps. It eventually led to Europe’s first thermal water indoor pool, established in 1872. Today, this water attracts travelers to Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, a five-star resort situated along the Rhine River about 60 miles southeast of Zurich. If any property knows about aging, it’s this one with its long history. Although most guests come to simply soak in the pools, others come for the resort’s progressive approach to staying youthful. Starting at $4,850, its four-day anti-aging program isn’t cheap. But what’s included would cost a lot more if you did it a la carte. Participants learn how to slow down their biological aging process with the help of expert consultations, a Ragazer anti-aging infusion, movement analysis and lab tests for the liver, kidney, thyroid, blood sugar and more.

Hotel St. George in Helsinki

Described within spa circles as age-defying massage, lymphatic therapy is very popular in Europe. It’s especially sought after in Finland where wellness is an everyday part of life. During lymphatic therapy, offered at Hotel St. George in Helsinki, a certified therapist uses skin stretching techniques to drain the lymphatic system. Proponents claim eliminating the body’s toxins and impurities boosts the immune system and slows down the aging process. Of course, no stay at Hotel St. George is complete without taking a 20-minute walk to Löyly Helsinki, where Finland’s most popular public saunas front the sea. (A 2015 Harvard Medical School article references a study linking regular sauna use with longevity.) Rates start around $200 a night.

Four Seasons Resorts and Residences Jackson Hole in Teton Village, Wyoming

In addition to offering naturalist programs in nearby Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, the resort’s spa offers Celluma light therapy. (Photo: Michael Brands, Four Seasons Resort And Residences Jackson Hole)

For travelers who feel younger when surrounded by nature and 9-million-year-old mountains, there’s no better place than Wyoming’s Four Seasons Resorts and Residences. In addition to offering naturalist programs in nearby Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, the resort’s spa offers Celluma light therapy. Celluma is an LED low-level light therapy that speeds up cell reproduction and makes skin firmer. At $420 for the 100-minute Pure Radiance and Age-Defying Facial including Celluma light therapy, it’s not the cheapest thing on the spa menu. But considering it includes technology originally developed by NASA, it’s probably the best investment. Rates start around $650 a night.

Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya in Puerto Morelos, Mexico

Mexico, a popular destination for medical and dental procedures, is also home to North America’s first certified Thalassotherapy center. Many believe this form of therapy in which sea water is thought to slow down aging originated in France. At Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera just south of Cancun guests can find a variety of thalasso treatments promising anti-aging benefits, though scientists have yet to prove them. For example, the $55 Luminous Eyes treatment uses marine algae to relieve puffiness associated with aging while the $385 Thalasso Facial includes a collagen mask for a regenerative “biological facelift.” Rates start around $400 a night.

Los Angeles residents are famous for looking younger than their birth certificates say they are. Now, thanks to The Peninsula Hotel’s new MBR-brand treatment, travelers visiting the City of Angels can travel back in time to a more youthful appearance. The Peninsula Hotel is the only place we know of in Los Angeles with this “liquid surgery” facial. It combines LED light therapy with a patented anti-aging peptide to prevent wrinkles. Travelers not wanting to spend $1,600 on a single treatment can walk across Santa Monica Boulevard and check into the Beverly Hilton. A visit to its Ozone Sauna – promising to reverse the signs of aging and give bodies a cellular makeover – starts at $75. Rates at The Peninsula Hotel start around $550 a night. Rates at the Beverly Hilton start around $250 a night.

11 Howard Hotel in New York City

For many guests, a stay at this Soho boutique hotel isn’t about being close to shopping. It about visiting its Just Ageless Body Contouring and Beauty Lab. The lab’s team includes a plastic surgeon, nurse injector and the woman W Magazine once called “Manhattan’s body whisperer.” Treatments range from injectables like Botox and Sclerotherapy, which promises to minimizes the appearance of spider veins, to intense pulse light therapy facials fixing sun damage and for body contouring, CoolSculpting – the FDA-approved fat-freezing procedure. Prices vary, but expect to pay at least $500 per treatment area. Rates start around $199 a night.

What distinguishes this beach resort from others on Florida’s northeastern coast is Ponte Vedra Inn & Club’s 30,000-square-foot spa. Its menu has several anti-aging treatments. There’s also a $215-anti-aging peptide and retinol-based facial and wrinkle corrector treatment, a $150 NuBody treatment featuring a skin toning device that lifts on sagging skin and even a $65 anti-aging guava manicure and pedicure. Rates start around $259 a night.

Anantara at The Palm Dubai in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Since 2015, guests at this hotel in the City of Gold – which also happens to be home to world class hammams – have taken advantage of the Fountain of Youth. It’s basically a fountain-like bath filled with oxygen-rich water saturated with billions of microbubbles. The tub’s MicroSilk technology claims to raise oxygen levels up to 70% higher than what is found in tap water. Because the bubbles are micro, they penetrate pores to cleanse, rejuvenate and the moisturize skin. A 30-minute soak costs about $95. Rates start around $150 a night.

Il Salviatino in Fiesole, Italy

Soak in a rooftop bathtub in $10,000 worth of bubbly. (Photo: Il Salviatino)

This 15th century villa turned boutique hotel sits on the outskirts of Florence where it has views of the Tuscan countryside. Guests in its two-story Ojetti Suite can enjoy Champagne while soaking in a rooftop bathtub. The tub is literally filled to the brim with bubbly. It’s a $10,000 bath, but if you believe that the abundant polyphenols present in Champagne will reduce your redness and inflammation, it might be worth it. Furthermore, studies on mice have shown that the polyphenols might even help slow down how the brain ages. Not a fan of Champagne? No problem. Il Salviatino also pours Prosecco and Spumante baths for about the same price. Standard room rates start around $300 a night.
