ANTHONY JOSHUA did not fancy fighting on after losing to Andy Ruiz Jr, according to David Haye.

It was supposed to be the night Joshua announced himself stateside, but his American debut turned into a nightmare as the Brit was sensationally stopped in seven rounds at Madison Square Garden.

The 29-year-old was decked four times by the Mexican who caused one of the biggest upsets in boxing stripping the Brit of his WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF world heavyweight titles in New York on Saturday night.

Haye, 38,hinted that Joshua did not follow referee Mike Griffin’s directions after hitting the canvas for the fourth time.

He told IFL TV: “This time, he got beat up. He looked like he didn’t want to fight.

“He put his hands on the ropes. He didn’t say to the referee, ‘yes, let’s go,’ and walk forward.

"I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, but everybody has a bad day at the office.

“He has a chance to prove it. He has a rematch clause."

The former WBA heavyweight champ was full of praise for Ruiz Jr who wasn’t given a prayer of beating Joshua at the Mecca of boxing.

Haye added: “This was a sustained beating. For me it was crazy situation to see Anthony Joshua get manhandled by someone so physically inferior to him.

“Just to look at him, you wouldn’t give him no chance whatsoever, but he showed that he’s got the heart. He’s got that.

“He’s the next Mexican superstar. Canelo has some fans. How many people in Mexico can relate to Andy Ruiz Jr? Look at him. You have to respect the heart.

“This guy didn’t come in shape, and he still did it.

"He (Joshua) obviously got knocked down against Wladimir Klitschko, but he got back up and closed the show. “

AJ's promoter Eddie Hearn insists there will be a rematch in London towards the end the year after the clause in Ruiz Jr's contract was invoked.
