JAN VERTONGHEN denies Spurs have gone “stale” – but declined to commit himself to staying.
The Belgium centre-back rebuffed claims of low morale amongst some players and frustration at boss Mauricio Pochettino's training regime.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday's clash with Bayern Munich, the 32-year-old said:“We've improved every year. Last year we went to the Champions League final.
“Some new players came in and that keeps it fresh. I don't see that it's stale at all.“I see plenty of joy in the dressing room. Everyone enjoys playing here.”
Vertognhen's contract runs out in the summer but he said: “
I'd prefer not to go into that, but there is always movement there, of course.
“It's my eighth season and I'm feeling great.
I'm very aware of my age. I feel fairly young.
“It doesn't distract me. I want to play as many games as possible. I'm very ambitious and I feel I've got a few good years left at the top level.”
TOBY ALDERWEIRELD has revealed what was said at half-time during Spurs' 2-1 win against Southampton on Saturday.
The Belgian centre-back said: ” We said at half time, ‘This is the moment to prove that we are a team’.
“It had all the ingredients to lose the game and I think we were wonderful.
“This is the most important win of the season.”
