The 41-year-old has been in negotiations with his old club after Derby allowed their boss to discuss the potential move.
And one of the first things the former Blues star will do will be to integrate the stars of the future into the first-team squad.
According to The Telegraph Lampard will “allow the academy players to mix with the senior professionals at the Cobham training complex”.
And he will also “instruct the youth coaches to vary training times, so that he can watch either after or before working with the first team”.
One of the main reasons why Chelsea have moved for Lampard to replace Maurizio Sarri is his desire to develop youngsters.

BAYERN MUNICH are looking to sign another Chelsea player – this time academy star Jamal Musiala.
Bild claim the Bundesliga champions have persuaded the German-born 16-year-old midfielder to join them.
They state that he has been offered a long-term contract in Bavaria.

CHELSEA MIDFIELDER Ross Barkley was spotted partying with a stunning Instagram star in Mykonos… before taking her for steak with Salt Bae.
After a gruelling season in which the 25-year-old won the Europa League and featured in the Nations League finals, the former Everton star soaked up the last of his holidays before pre-season training.
The England international was seen with his arm around the pretty brunette, who is understood to be fashion designer Jordan McCabe.
McCabe, who is the director of Aztec Diamond Equestrian, later posted a video of Barkley enjoying Salt Bae's trademark steak seasoning at his Greek restaurant.
The two had earlier been spotted arm-in-arm at the luxurious SantAnna beach club where the Blues midfielder knocked back the booze.
Barkley, sporting patterned swimming shorts, also at one point pulled McCabe in close as she whispered something in his ear.

FRANK LAMPARD is NOT the only candidate for the Chelsea job, according to Petr Cech.
The new Blues' new technical and performance advisor says the club want the position filled before the players return for pre-season.
Derby boss and Chelsea legend Lampard is the first choice to replace Maurizio Sarri.
But ex-Chelsea keeper Cech, who starts his new job today, declared: “The club has identified some of the coaches they are dealing with.
“The situation is open, Frank is one of the candidates.
“I could speak about all the candidates… they know my ideas.”
