IT may be the international break, but that has not stopped a bundle of noise surrounding Manchester United.
The Old Trafford outfit could be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the near future, with David de Gea set to reject a contract extension at the club.
The Red Devils’ board have offered the Spaniard £350,000-a-week, but the shot-stopper has told friends he will turn it down.
That comes amidst reports Juventus want the 28-year-old to replace their current first choice in ex-Arsenal star Wojciech Szczesny.
Should United lose De Gea, they could turn their attentions to Atletico Madrid’s wonder keeper Jan Oblak, who has been La Liga’s best shot stopper for the past four seasons.
And they could have former no.1 of their own leading the negotiations, as they look to make Edwin van der Sar their first Director of Football.
The Dutchman has received many plaudits for his work with Ajax and now the Red Devils hope he can reinvigorate the squad and organisation of the club.
Maddison could be among Van der Sar’s first acquisitions should he join, with the Leicester City ace hinting at an exit from the King Power Stadium.
He told the Mirror: “I want to play at the highest level my ability will allow me to.
“I like to think I have my head screwed on with the transfers I’ve made.”
This comes amidst speculation of a move further north to Manchester.
But Pogba is among the players that almost left in the summer – but remains at Old Trafford thanks to the side’s shirt sponsors Adidas.
The German kit manufacturers have a £31m deal with the French World Cup winner, while also holding a £750m contract with United.
That saw them become peacemakers between their two clients and persuade Pogba to reject Real Madrid’s approaches.
