IKEA is set to open its most sustainable store to date in Greenwich, costing the Swedish retailer around £100million.

When does the new Ikea store open in Greenwich?

Ikea’s new Greenwich store is set to open on Thursday, February 7, 2019.

It is London’s first new full-size Ikea for more than 13 years and measures 344,445 sq. ft.

The company claims the store has been designed with Londoners and the environment in mind.

It has been described as Ikea’s most sustainable store.

How does the store promote sustainability?

The unique space is filled with a number of sustainability concepts like greywater recycling, rainwater treatment and solar panels.

Along with the usual treats like its infamous meatballs and the marketplace, the Greenwich branch also aims to be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.

It will also be home to a sensory wildlife garden up on the roof and learning lab where customers can learn how to grow their own food, upcycle and generally live a healthier and more sustainable life at home.

Where is it located and how can I get there?

Ikea Greenwich will be located at Millennium Way Retail Park, near North Greenwich tube station which is on the Jubilee line.

The company is encouraging visitors to come to the store using sustainable methods.

The Greenwich store is just a 10 minute bus ride or 22 minute walk from North Greenwich station.

It is an 11 minute walk from Westcombe Park Rail or a 10 minute bus ride from Charlton Railway Station.

There are eleven bus routes operating in the area that are able to bring you directly to the store.

The store is also offering more sustainable methods to get your items home.

Options include home delivery, minicab services or a courier bicycle.
