Apparently, the cliche “a captain always goes down with his ship” can also apply to bands and shopping malls.
Chances are everyone reading this right now will have been in a situation where they can’t think of the perfect thing to say. Whether it be a witty quip or a scathing comeback during an argument. Then, hours or maybe only minutes later, the perfect response or reaction comes to you. Sadly, most of the time, by that point it’s too late.
When in those situations, we wish we had the quick thinking of the band in the video below. When a mall in Mexico began to flood (and we’re not entirely sure why) the band saw the perfect opportunity. The chance to make use of something it seemed as if they had been practicing for. To play Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’, the theme to Titanic.
Thankfully, another quick-thinking member of the public had the wherewithal to whip out their phone and record the whole thing. At the time of typing this, the clip has been viewed a staggering 17.9 million times in just ten days. We can see why. Not only is playing the movie hit as water cascades around them a stroke of genius, but the band is actually pretty talented.
What makes the video even better than it already is is the woman we’re assuming works at the mall’s attempts at solving the flood problem. By placing a solitary bucket under the massive amounts of water falling from above. A great many of the comments beneath the video on Twitter are questioning what the poor woman is even thinking. The phrase “a drop in the ocean” comes to mind.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the performance is how ready the band was to smash out a Celine Dion classic at a moment’s notice. However, the mall’s history might give us a glimpse into why that is. Apparently, that very same mall flooded at the same time last year according to Mexico News Daily. Perhaps the band missed their chance then and learned the song in case the mall should ever flood again. Time well spent, clearly.
