The Matrix Resurrections is one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. The franchise is making a big return after 18 years since 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprise their roles in the action movie franchise that will be new for a whole new generation of moviegoers. The Matrix Resurrections poster hit social media and fans aren’t very happy about the final product.
‘The Matrix Resurrections’ plot has a lot to explain
Some audiences were confused about whether The Matrix Resurrections is a reboot or a sequel. Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections is a direct sequel to The Matrix Revolutions. Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic delays nearly canceled the entire production, but fortunately, Wachowski decided to complete the action movie.
The Matrix Resurrections is set 20 years after its predecessor. Neo (Reeves), also known as Thomas A. Anderson, is living a seemingly normal life in San Francisco. He’s seeing a therapist for his troubles and is being given blue pills to take. Thomas sees Trinity (Moss), but he doesn’t recognize her. She’s a complete stranger to him. Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) returns with a red pill, which reopens his world to the Matrix. Wachowski has a lot to explain in bridging the movie to its predecessor.
‘The Matrix Resurrections’ poster is finally here
The Matrix Resurrections is starting to unveil some of its details with marketing and other promotional materials. The official Warner Bros. Pictures Twitter page showed off the new action movie poster. Some fans are simply excited for the movie to hit theaters and HBO Max next month. However, the majority of fans seem fairly unhappy with the poster for such a big title.
Reddit and Twitter opened up on their opinions of the new poster. It doesn’t give much away that fans don’t already know and its design is fairly simple. Warner Bros. chose to highlight the actors over any particular concept or visual flair. A couple of fans commented on a bad photoshop job, while others claimed that it looks like a fanmade poster.
Twitter specifically highlighted how Abdul-Mateen looks on the poster as Morpheus. He’s the only character wearing a red and green suit. Some fans called it a “Christmas suit,” while one of the most liked comments in the thread compared his look to Barney. A Redditor compared his look to DC’s the Joker.
Keanu Reeves continues his action movie domination
The Matrix Resurrections is another big title for Reeves. He also has another John Wick installment coming in the following year. John Wick 4 will see the return of the assassins’ world since 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Stunt crew wrap gifts seem to indicate that the full title could be John Wick: Chapter 4 – Hagakure.
The Matrix Resurrections comes to theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 22. However, John Wick: Chapter 4 – Hagakure isn’t expected until May 27, 2022.
