A teenager almost died after taking a rogue valium pill laced with fentanyl, his mum has warned.
Lynn Berry, from Ballingry, Fife, says her 19-year-old son Brodie Canning was moments from death when he was found unconscious by police at a house in his hometown last Wednesday.
Lynn claims the pill her son took was laced with fentanyl – a drug which is said to be 50 times more potent than heroin, Daily Record reports.
Mum-of-five Lynn said: "The problem is people don't know what they are taking until it's too late.
"Brodie could have died. We were told if he hadn't got help when he did then the outcome could have been very different.
"It's awful and very scary to think of what could have happened."
She continued: "I just want to warn others of the dangers of taking these tablets. Don't do it. You don't know what they're laced with.
"We were told by doctors that the valium Brodie took contained fentanyl. This stuff is lethal. It's 50 times more potent than heroin. It makes you go to sleep and your heart stop."
Lynn said she was told by doctors at The Queen Margaret Hospital where Brodie was treated that he was not the first person to be admitted after taking the rogue tablet.
She added: "The doctor told me he had seen the same type of thing happen quite a few times recently. We didn't know what Brodie had taken at first but the doctors were sure it was the same thing as they had dealt with before because of his symptoms and how he was reacting to treatment.
"Apparently this drug is a big problem at the moment."
Lynn said when she arrived at the hospital she was shocked to see just how bad a state Brodie was in.
