Teddi Mellencamp’s baby daughter, Dove, will undergo neurosurgery for Lambdoid Craniosynostosis, the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star revealed on Instagram on Monday.
According to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Lambdoid Craniosynostosis refers to the premature fusion of the bones in an infant’s skull. It can cause issues with the child’s appearance and brain development complications.
“I was torn as to whether I should share this information, but as someone who tries to be as transparent as possible, and knowing I have a platform to reach others in similar situations, I would like to update you all,” Mellencamp, 39, captioned a photo of her 4-month-old’s face. “Our sweet baby Dove was diagnosed with Lambdoid Craniosynostosis and has to undergo neurosurgery at the end of the month.”
The Bravo star said doctors caught it early.
Dove’s recovery period is expected to be “about a week in the hospital and a couple weeks at home with a very high success rate.”
“So although we are filled with nerves as neurosurgery sounds scary, we have our faith that she will be ok,” she concluded. “Please keep baby Dove in your prayers and if you have had a child with this same surgery, please let me know below, as I would love any additional insight and support.”
Mellencamp said said she initially thought her daughter had a condition like older brother, Cruz, who struggled with Torticollis. According to KidsHealth.org, this condition can be treated with physical therapy and stretching exercises.
Mellencamp’s co-stars Lisa Rinna and Erika Jayne commented heart emojis as a show of support.
The reality star and husband Edwin Arroyave welcomed Dove in February after an unexpected pregnancy.
The couple are also parents to 7-year-old daughter Slate and 5-year-old son Cruz. Mellencamp is also a stepmom to Arroyave’s daughter Isabella.
