Armed police gunned down the Streatham terrorist within 60 seconds of him launching his horrific knife attack, it has been revealed.

Metropolitan Police has released dramatic details of the terror incident which took place on Streatham High Road at 2pm on Sunday.

Met Police's Counter Terrorism Command was monitoring Sudesh Amman and saw him leaving a home at around 1.20pm.

Despite being closely watched the 20-year-old brazenly stole a knife from a shop and was pursued by a member of staff.

As he ran from the shop, Amman removed packaging from the knife, and once outside attacked two members of public.

The time from him entering the shop to beginning his attack outside was approximately 60 seconds, according to Scotland Yard.

Police officers opened fire with a volley of gunshots within approximately 60 seconds of him beginning to attack members of the public.

Initial first aid was provided to victims by officers at the scene as ambulance crews were called.

Officers saw a device was strapped to his body and called in specialist explosives officers, but they soon revealed it to be a hoax device.

Amman was released from HMP Belmarsh in south east London on January 23.

A man, who is in his 40s, remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital, officers have confirmed.

One woman in her 50s had non-life threatening injuries and has been discharged from hospital.

Scotland Yard said they were confident that this is "an isolated incident" that has been "contained".
