A hardworking single dad still turned up for his shifts on Christmas Day and Boxing Day despite winning £1million off a National Lottery scratchcard.
Didzis Pirags, 36, a chef and kitchen manager at The Hungry Horse in Garstang Road, Broughton, scooped the money during his lunch break but refused to let down his customers over the festive period.
After he bought the £5 scratchcard on Saturday he got a "lucky itch".
The dedicated parent has put a deposit down on his first ever home and said his festive fortune will change his life and that of his five-year-old son.
Speaking at the Preston Marriott Hotel, he said: "This is totally unbelievable what has happened and the best dream come true ever at Christmas time.
"I will be able to give my son the best ever life now which is all I have ever wished for.
"I am currently living above my place of work and now I can look forward to owning a home of my own and a very special place to bring my son up.
"I have put a deposit down on a four bedroom house with a garden which I know my son will love!"
The dedicated parent works 60 hours a week and now plans to resign from his job so he can find a new role that will leave him free at the weekends to spend time with his boy.
He said: "All I want is to be able to provide the best possible life for my son and this win will enable me to do exactly this."
The newly created millionaire will also generously give some of his new winnings to friends and family and will also give away his current car once he splashes out on a new one.
