If you’ve been watching Selena: The Series (and why wouldn’t you?) and you know the backstory of Selena Quintanilla, then you also know the first part of the limited series focuses heavily on the early years of the Tejano singer’s life.
The show gives fans of the “Queen of Tejano Music” new insight into Selena’s childhood and teenage years, her family relationships, and how her family’s band, Selena y Los Dinos, came together. But the first part ends before some really important events happened, like Selena’s huge solo career and her secret elopement with bandmate Chris Pérez.
In fact, some of her bigger songs aren’t included in the series, and neither is Selena’s tragic death at age 23.
But, good news for fans of the biographical drama: There is definitely a part two to the series—and it’s hopefully coming to Netflix soon.
When will Selena: The Series part two premiere?
There’s no exact release date yet (sorry), but it’s already been filmed. This comes straight from Selena herself, a.k.a. actress Christian Serratos. In an interview with the LA Times in November, she just casually mentioned part two like it was NBD.
Production on part one actually started in October 2019, Christian revealed to the publication. It’s impossible to know when Netflix is planning to roll out part two, but they’ll likely want to space things out a little. So… fans are probably looking at a 2021 release date.
What will Selena: The Series part two be about?
Just to recap: Selena: The Series part one left off with Selena releasing her second album and getting all hot and heavy with her future husband, Chris.
While no one has shared any verified spoilers on what part two will be about, Selena fans know there are plenty of real-life events that still need to be covered. Among other things, you can reasonably expect the series to cover Selena’s elopement, her Grammy win in 1994, her work as a fashion designer, her growing fame, and her murder by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club.
Basically, Selena: The Series part one was building the foundation for Selena’s life and fame, while the second part will heavily focus on the time in her life when she became mega-famous.
Will anything else change in Selena: The Series part two?
Not really. It’s unlikely the child actors who portrayed the younger version of Selena and her siblings will be back (beyond the occasional flashbacks), but all the adult cast members are expected to stay on for part two.
The only tidbit Christian dropped about the second part is this: She did her own makeup for part two, just like Selena did IRL. “Her eyebrows and her eyeliner and her lips were so specific to me,” she told the LA Times of Selena’s signature look. “But every time I did my makeup on set, it made me feel so much more like her. That started off my day in character, going to work and doing my makeup. For season two, I was like, ‘I want to do it. Selena did her own makeup, I’m doing my own makeup,'”
Can’t. Wait.
