We may not be able to leave the house at the moment but that hasn’t stopped the Secret Cinema team having a little fun.

The company has launched a new immersive entertainment series – designed to be enjoyed at home.

The new initiative, called Secret Sofa, aims to bring popular films to life in the usual Secret Cinema style – so think costumes, interactivity and more. The only difference is that it takes place at home, rather than at a designated venue.

Those looking to get involved need to start by signing up via email, then every Tuesday the team will announce the ‘Secret Sofa’ of the week – which will take place on the Friday. Some weeks they will reveal the film in advance and other times they’ll add a little more mystery.

The email will provide details of how to create your own immersive experience at home – from character and costume suggestions to music and food.

People taking part will also need to download the weekly film ready for kick-off on Friday nights at 7.30pm. The hope is that thousands of people across the country will all be watching the same film together, every Friday.

Secret Sofa is set to run for eight weeks, kicking off this Friday 17th April with Wes Anderson’s masterpiece The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The experience is in collaboration with ice cream giants Häagen-Dazs, who will be offering movie fans the chance to order the ice cream flavour of the week via Amazon Prime Now.

CEO Max Alexander said: ‘At the heart of Secret Cinema’s experiences is audience participation and groups of strangers coming together to experience film and culture in new and interesting ways.

‘Secret Sofa is our home cinema version of this, where the nation will be able to relive a Secret Cinema they loved or missed, as well as discover new titles and share their experiences with each other virtually.’

You can sign up to Secret Sofa online.
