Leah McSweeney has remained close with Julia Fox ever since the two attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in New York City.

“I was her sponsor in AA years ago, and we just stayed friends,” the “Real Housewives of New York City” star said on Monday’s episode of “The Morning Toast.”

McSweeney, 39, and Fox, 32, previously talked about their decade-long friendship during a November 2021 episode of the “Uncut Gems” star’s “Forbidden Fruits” podcast.

“Leah was my sponsor in AA. We were both so sick and suffering,” Fox said, to which McSweeney agreed.

“I have the coolest sponsees though,” McSweeney added. “I mean, I really was in no shape to help anybody.”

Fox reassured her that she was a tremendous help at the time.

“You told me something that I still think all the time: ‘Tire the body and the mind will follow,’” Fox recalled. “If I’m feeling depressed or stressed, I’m just like, ‘Let’s get busy.’ I’ll workout and whatever, and I always think about that.”

A touched McSweeney told Fox that she actually passed down that phrase from her own AA sponsor.

McSweeney was sober for 10 years before beginning her ”Housewives” journey in 2019. She’s since returned to a sober lifestyle and is approaching her two-year mark.

Fox has been candid about her own struggles with substances from a young age. She previously struggled with heroin and pills, suffering a near-fatal overdose at 17.

“It’s kind of a miracle that I’m OK,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in January 2020.

“A lot of the people I grew up with aren’t doing so well. They’re still on drugs or in jail. A lot of them died.”
