Princess Charlotte has reportedly earnt herself the nickname ‘warrior princess’ at school due to her adventurous ‘tomboy’ personality.
The second child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, seven, coined the nickname during her first year at Willcocks nursery school – and a royal expert believes it could be here to stay.
Katie Nicholl told US show Entertainment Tonight that, while Charlotte has the moniker ‘Princess’, her ‘tomboy’ interests have earnt her the quirky term of affection.
She added the Princess is known for being very adventurous and therefore might retain her nickname throughout her school years, the Mirror reports.
The royal expert said: ‘Apparently she earned that nickname because obviously, she is a Princess, but she’s quite a tomboy.
Princess Charlotte (pictured at Sandringham at Christmas last year) has reportedly been given the nickname ‘Warrior Princess’ according to royal expert Katie Nicholl, who told Entertainment Tonight the seven-year-old is a ‘tomboy’
‘She loves climbing trees and she’s very much an adventurer, she was quite known for her feisty personality. I’m wondering if that might be a nickname that will stick with her.’
Warrior Princess is just one of the many nicknames given to Princess Charlotte, with her family using several different terms of affection to refer to the seven-year-old.
Her mother, the Princess of Wales has been overheard speaking about her daughter and giving her the name ‘Lottie’ – a typical shortening of the name ‘Charlotte’.
Royal fans sometimes catch a glimpse of Princess Charlotte’s cheeky side, such as her comical display at the Commonwealth Games last summer
During a recent visit to Northern Ireland, Kate, 41, chatted to a member of the public about the age of their son, to which she replied: ‘Oh, he’s the same age as Lottie.’
Prince William, in turn, often refers to his daughter by a different nickname, which is a sweet term of endearment.
He has previously been reported to refer to Charlotte as ‘Mignonette’, which means ‘small and delicate’ in French.
But if reports are to be believed, the bold young princess has long outgrown her father’s nickname and is finding her own way in the world.
In more recent appearances, royal fans have been able to catch a glimpse at Charlotte’s quirky personality while she has been out and about with her family.
During a trip to the Commonwealth Games last summer the princess watched the events eagerly, but began larking about with her father after a few hours.
She pulled funny faces as she sat in the stands, and was pictured giving her parents an eager thumbs up to demonstrate she was enjoying herself.
The young princess has also demonstrated her maturity in more recent appearances, not least at the funeral of her beloved ‘Gan Gan’, Queen Elizabeth.
As she stood next to her older brother Prince George outside Westminster Abbey at the state funeral of the late monarch, she appeared to tell the second-in-line to the throne ‘you need to bow’ as the Queen’s coffin drove past.
And it seems Prince George knew to listen to his younger sister’s advice, as he quickly obliged.
