A FUMING pensioner has been left down in the dumps after a toilet block was built opposite his luxury seafront home.

James Johnston, 87, has been forced to knock £50,000 off the asking price for the property in Bognor Regis because of the eyesore.

His balcony used to look over the foreshore office and seashore but the former was demolished a few years ago to make way for the loos.

James now claims no one wants to buy his home after the view was spoiled by the grey and blue beachfront toilet block.

He said: "It's ridiculous.

"You knew the foreshore office was there, but at least it fit in with everything else.

"The toilets don't match anything. It's a horrible building."

James objected to the block being built along with other residents living in The Esplanade Grande.

His flat was originally put on sale for £400,000 but it has now been dropped to £350,000.

Estate agent Gail Chisham said: "We just cannot sell it. We had two viewings over the weekend, and they love the flat.

"They love everything about it, it's a luxury apartment. But then they get to the sitting room and say 'I couldn't live here'.

"It feels like no matter what the price is, I just don't think we will find a buyer."

Arun District Council, who built the toilets, said people had every chance to object.

A spokesperson said: "These essential public facilities have been constructed in full compliance with the planning consent granted."
