DEAR DEIDRE: A WONDERFUL first date with a seemingly lovely man ended in horror when I arrived home to find he’d texted me a picture of his genitalia.
We’d got on so well over dinner, and he appeared to be kind and thoughtful. So why did he have to spoil it by sending an X-rated picture?
I’m 42 and back on the dating scene after a divorce.
He’s 48 and said he was looking for a serious relationship after a marriage break-up.
We talked for weeks before the date. He was respectful during our meal, and even though there was a bit of flirting, he said nothing inappropriate.
So imagine my shock on opening my phone to see not only his manhood in all its non-glory, but also a detailed, graphic description of what he’d like to do to me.

I told him I was disappointed and he apologised. But I felt differently about him, so I blocked him.
However, I now miss our conversations.
He’s the first man I’ve met who I genuinely felt a connection with.
Perhaps I’m just a prude and this is the norm now?

DEIDRE SAYS: While this behaviour is more common nowadays, that doesn’t mean you have to accept it.
Many women find such pictures a total turn-off – which is the opposite of the sender’s intention.
Perhaps your date thinks this is what women expect?
If you miss his conversation, you could get in touch and say you blocked him in haste and would like to meet again.
But make it clear you want to take things slowly, and don’t want to see his private parts again until you are ready for intimacy.
