A mum asked for opinions on a potential boys name – Ovie.
Admitting she was inspired by Love Island star Ovie Soko, the Mumsnet user asked others if it would be wrong to draw inspiration from the ITV2 show.
Response to her query was mostly negative, with many telling the parent she may as well call her son “ovaries”.
Others were less concerned about the moniker, reassuring the woman that her choice was “cute”.
So what do you make of the unusual name?
The name Ovie can be traced back to different origins.
While some say it’s old English for “riverbend”, others insist it’s a Nigerian moniker that means “King”.
Searches for the name are likely to have soared in recent days.
This is because Ovie Soko has entered the Love Island villa, capturing the hearts of viewers.
One mum was so enamoured with the contestant that she drew baby name inspiration from him.
On Mumsnet, she asked: “Ovie – Am I watching too much Love Island or is this a cute name?”
The post has racked up dozens of comments – and many admitted they’re not a fan of the name.
Many think Ovie sounds too much like “ovaries” or “ovine”.
One responder remarked: “Sounds like a nickname for your ovary.”
Another said: “Or Ovine (sheep)”
A third added: “Oval, Ovaltine… I’m not getting ‘nice name’.”
A fourth advised: “I’ve never seen Love Island, but naming your kid because of a show which is on now but presumably not forever seems shortsighted to be honest.”
While the majority of comments were negative, some approved of the mum’s baby name taste.
One Mumsnetter gushed: “Cute name.”
Meanwhile, a second said Dennon – another Love Island contestant – was a nice option for parents too.
They remarked: “I like it. Also like Dennon too lol.”
