We’ve all looked up our crush’s star sign and obsessed over astrological compatibility, right?
But there’s another element of astrology that can hold meaning in relationships, apparently, and that’s the moon phase, AKA the shape of the moon’s directly sunlit portion.
Just as your star sign is said to indicate certain personality traits, so too does the moon phase you were born under. And as with other forms of astrology, these can be compared with others to help determine whether you might be a match – or not.
What are the different moon phases?
As astrologer Haley Comet explains, moon phases indicate more than just who you might be suited to in love. They also suggest ‘a lot about you and the archetype that you were destined to play in this lifetime.’
So, what are the different moon phases? And what might they say about your personality?
Natal moon phase a HUGE part of your birth chart that we don’t talk about enough! Here’s what it means to be born during every moon phase #moonphases #moonphasetrendcouples #moonphasesoulmates #astrology #greenscreen
The New Moon is the first phase, and it typically represents a blank slate.
‘New Moon babies are gifted with this youthful, childlike excitement on life’, Comet outlines. ‘They’re also often natural leaders, embracing new beginnings.’
2. Waxing Crescent
The Waxing Crescent is the second phase, representing a ‘sliver of the moon’ showing in the night sky.
‘This is the time we take action on our new moon intentions, thus those born with this moon phase have all of that visionary energy of the new moon baby matched with action, intention, focus,’ Comet adds.
3. First Quarter
The First Quarter moon phase is the first crisis phase, but don’t worry: that doesn’t necessarily mean that babies born under this moon will eternally be in crisis. These individuals are inundated with energy, and talented at tackling challenges.
‘You tend to keep a calm head in times of crisis,’ Comet explains.
4. Waxing Gibbous
With exceptionally high standards, Waxing Gibbous moons are driven. But as soon as they accomplish one thing, they’ll likely want to move onto the next one.
‘We’re setting the scene before the big reveal – the Full Moon. Waxing Gibbous moons come with this energy around refining and dialling in, in order for themselves and their life to be the best it possibly can be’, Comet adds.
‘These individuals can be very drawn to things such as self-improvement and productivity.’
5. Full Moon
Full Moon babies are born into navigating a lifetime of balancing opposites. As Comet outlines, the Full Moon is a reflection of the sun, so these babies ‘receive this illumination of the entirety of who it is that they are through this bouncing off of energy from others.’
‘They tend to be very charismatic and they work well with others because they are navigating this tension of opposites, which is challenging to wrestle with internally.’
6. Waning Gibbous
The Waning Gibbous moon happens after the culmination, or the illumination of the Full Moon.
‘Individuals with this moon phase are oftentimes the teachers, the mentors, the altruists. They have this deep desire to want to share their time, energy and wisdom with others,’ Comet says.
‘They can be quite adventurous. They are storytellers.’
7. Last Quarter
The penultimate phase is the Last Quarter – AKA the other crisis moon phase. But, as ever, this doesn’t translate to a life of experiencing crisis – more that those born under this moon might be particularly talented at acting during emotional or spiritual crises.
‘You are able to provide stability when other people are undergoing chaos and turmoil within their world,’ Comet adds.
8. Waning Crescent
Finally, the Waning Crescent moon represents letting go. As such, these babies are often reflective and introspective, motivated by life’s deeper meaning and often quite spiritual.
‘These individuals are quite wise – it is considered that these people are quite old souls,’ Comet concludes. ‘They are here to essentially wrap up and complete cycles.
‘It is associated with solitude. They typically do need their own internal time in order to rejuvenate their energy source.’
What do moon phases mean in relationships and how can you tell if you’re a good match?
‘In modern astrology, having matching moon phases can mean you process emotions in a similar way,’ astrologer Erika Luna Moon explains.
‘From a psychological perspective, it’s one way of knowing if someone is introverted or extroverted when processing emotions.’
The general idea to determine compatibility is that your match will either have been born in the same moon phase as you, or into one that completes yours into a full moon.
It’s suggested that the former indicates that someone is your twin flame – or one soul split – whilst the latter is suggestive of soulmate status, or two souls with one special emotional connection.
