A tattoo model has shared the brutal reality of eyeball inkings, which led to her becoming temporarily blind.
Amber Luke was in her early twenties when disaster hit a few years back/
The tattoos that catapulted her to fame ended up being the reason she lost her independence, as an extreme session resulted in the loss of her sight.
Amber, who boasts 22,000 followers on Instagram, has spent more than £20,000 on body modifications over the years.
But, despite loving her extremely artistic inkings, her eyeball inkings were initially difficult to come to terms with.
The influencer, from New South Wales, Australia, was left crying bright blue tears as the op left her "completely incapable" of being independent.
It's now been five years since it all happened, and Amber recently wrote to reflect on the traumatic period of her life.
She wrote on Instagram: "It’s been five years since I lost my sight for three weeks and was completely incapable of being an independent person.
"The torturous procedure had me endure four syringe injections into each of my eyeballs (if done correctly – only supposed to be two injections).
"I cried blue tears for two days after the procedure was performed. (botched)."
To signify her struggle, Amber got a weeping portrait tattoo on her chest.
She added: "This tattoo on my ribs done by my main @missbreezeartist – who absolutely nailed the concept on the head. Thanks for your time."
Amber has more than 200 tattoos, but she said the eyeball inking was one of the most “brutal” sessions she experienced.
She shared her story three years back as, at the time, other experts were warning against the dangers of eyeball inkings.
Back in 2019, she told Barcroft TV: “I can't even begin to describe to you what the feeling was like, the best thing I can give you is once the eyeball was penetrated with the ink, it felt like [the tattoo artist] grabbed 10 shards of glass and rubbed it in my eye.
“That happened four times per eye, that was pretty brutal."
She continued: “Unfortunately, my artist went too deep into my eyeball.
"If your eyeball procedure's done correctly, you're not supposed to go blind at all.
“I was blind for three weeks. That was pretty brutal.”
Following the traumatic ordeal, Amber was certain she wouldn't undertake any extreme body modification procedures again – even though she wouldn't turn down a new tattoo.
The influencer has spent more than 10 years getting inked, as she first experimented with body art when she was aged 14.
She started around the same when she began to experience depression.
Amber since been tattooed more than 200 times as she's on a mission to “fully cover” her skin.
Judging by her Instagram account, she's pretty much there!
