Prince William and Kate Middleton stole the spotlight from the Sussexes at Glasgow’s COP26 climate change summit – but once again, Harry and Meghan are fighting back for attention.

The couple, who stepped back from royal duties last year, have penned an open letter urging world leaders to send COVID-19 vaccines to low-income countries.

According to royal commentator Jonathan Sacerdoti, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle felt left out of the Fab Four – the Cambridges, Prince Charles and Camilla – and want the spotlight back on them.

Mr Sacerdoti, a commentator on Sky News and contributor to The Spectator, told The Express: “They won’t let a single opportunity for attention and publicity pass them by and I think COP26 is one of those opportunities.”

The Fab Four have stepped up to represent the crown in recent weeks as Her Majesty the Queen reluctantly agreed to rest on doctors’ orders.

Mr Sacerdoti added: “The Royal Family were meant to be there [Glasgow] in force. And I think that Meghan and Harry would have felt very much left out.”

But, he explains, their timing to clutch our attention away from the royals was impeccable, and they’ve ensured that they haven’t missed out.

“I think [the letter] was significant in terms of the timing, in the same way that everything Meghan and Harry do is significant in terms of the timing.”

Since relocating to California, the Sussexes have battled for attention against William and Kate by announcing lucrative deals and exciting news at the perfect moment.

The couple overshadowed Kate’s 39th birthday in January when a source revealed they had “no plans” to return to social media due to the “hate” they received.

And in March their explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey aired just as the royals prepared for a large “PR push” for the Cambridges’ 10th anniversary, Prince Philip’s 100th birthday and the Queen’s 95th.

Prince Harry was reportedly “in panic mode” when he heard about the Queen’s worrying hospital stay, where she underwent “preliminary investigations”, but the Duke has since cancelled his trip to the UK.

Plus, sources say it’s “very unlikely” that the couple will christen Lilibet at Windsor Castle – instead opting to stay in California.

While the Fab Four gear up for more engagements in Her Majesty’s absence, Harry and Meghan have invested in ‘ethical banking’ and signed deals with media giants Netflix and Spotify.
