Is there anything worse than seeing your plants looking a little peaky?

It seems plant parents need not panic, as one man has shared a simple hack to revive dying plants using an unlikely material – human hair.

Armen Adamjan, from Rhode Island, came up with the easy trick after looking for a way to put his stray hairs to good use.

The 31-year-old took leftover strands from his hairbrush to see what would happen if he put them in the soil of his plants.

Armen took two plants and added hair to one and left the other without.

He was shocked to see the one with hair grow faster and taller than the other, over the course of a few weeks.

The content creator, who currently lives in Denmark, said: ‘Every day I research ways to simplify daily life and repurpose things we normally tend to throw out.

‘Most of my ideas happen spontaneously, as with the plant hair hack.

‘I woke up and brushed my hair, and when I looked at the hairbrush I asked myself if there was anything the hair could be used for. Although it seemed a bit crazy at first, I discovered that hair is rich in nitrogen.’

Armen explains that he knew nitrogen was crucial for plant growth – so thought this could work for his shrubs.

He added: ‘This is when I decided to do an experiment: two identical plants (at the same growth stage) with the same quality soil.

‘However, in one of them I buried a ball of hair next to the stem of the plant. Over the next six weeks, the plant with the hair buried grew faster and taller than the one without.

‘I then experimented with another set of seedlings and noticed the same progression.

‘Honestly, I was a little surprised how quickly I saw results, as hair can take a while to biodegrade – but I was excited to share the hack with the world.’

Armen shared a video of his experiment on social media and the clip has since been viewed more than 28,000 times on TikTok.

Most of his followers have been blown away by the trick, too.

One person replied: ‘Omg a homemade fertiliser yes please.’

While another added: ‘Postpartum shed about to give life to my plants.’
