Cabin crew member Henry Kehr sadly lost his mum Tracey two years ago to breast cancer.
Henry, from Docklands in East London, decided to honour his mum – who was also a flight attendant – and run a marathon in her memory.
But as a result of the pandemic, many fundraising events have been cancelled, which has made it harder for charities to raise money.
So Henry had to get creative and decided to run a half marathon on an empty plane to raise money for cancer research.
The 25-year-old managed to nail 13 miles on an empty eight-hour cargo flight from Atlanta to Heathrow.
Keen runner Henry would’ve opted to run the full marathon of 26 miles however due to health and safety reasons, was told he could reach a maximum distance of 13 miles.
Henry was able to complete the run in an impressive two hours and 37 minutes and raised over £1,000 in memory of his beloved mum.
He also chose to give half of the funds to Macmillan so the charity can continue to help those diagnosed with cancer.
Henry wrote on his Instagram: ‘This year has been hugely difficult for everyone, especially those in the aviation industry, the impact of Covid-19 has been devastating in many ways.
‘It has had a huge knock-on effect on the support of many incredible charities with a lack of fundraising events so I thought I would try and raise some money for a few charities close to me.’
He continued: ‘My incredible inspirational mum passed away two years ago from cancer which changed my life forever.
‘She was cabin crew years before bringing me into the world and by undertaking this challenge, I will be flying high with her every step of the way.’
If, like Henry, you wish to raise money for Macmillan, you don’t have to jump on a plane and run around it.
You can host a coffee morning to raise money. Find more information on the Macmillan website.
