With the Love Island final looming and the finish line now firmly in sight, one of the final challenges for the couples to face is their final dates – when they will be given one last opportunity to convince their partners (and viewers at home) that this relationship is for keeps.
Every year, for the final dates of the season the couples are sent on hugely romantic dates, where no expense is spared on the lavish culmination of two months in the villa.
From boat trips to cute picnics, romantic meals to flirty dances, each date brings with it everything a hopeless romantic could wish for.
However, despite the luxury dates, if previous seasons are anything to go by, the type of date the Islanders go on has a direct correlation to whether or not their relationship will actually go the distance.
So which dates are cursed and which ones aren’t?
A boat trip
Examples: Liberty & Jake, Wes & Megan, Amber & Greg, Paige & Adam
While every season brings with it a swanky date on a luxurious yacht, the impressive location doesn’t have the best track record for predicting a stable and enduring relationship.
Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish famously went on the date despite having broken up, with the pair then going on to sensationally call it quits upon their return.
Wes Nelson and Megan Barton-Hanson broke up, while Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea had one of the messiest breakups in Love Island history – and last year’s contestants Paige Thorne and Adam Collard were rocked by a cheating scandal just weeks after leaving the villa.
Given the track record, things aren’t looking good for whichever couple gets landed with a seafaring date to end this series.
A once in a lifetime experience
Examples: Gabby & Marcel
Another date location that could prove the Islander’s romance is doomed, is a date to a once in a lifetime experience, that wouldn’t always be one you can predict.
Examples in previous years have included Gabby Allen and Marcel Sommerville, who enjoyed a stunning helicopter ride together followed by a romantic meal that screamed a lasting commitment.
However, despite appearances to the contrary, after the show Marcel went on to cheat on Gabby, prompting the couple to go their separate ways.
A rose-studded date
Examples: Faye & Teddy, Andrew & Tasha
Viewers of Love Island will undoubtedly recall that Faye Winter and Teddy Soares’ final date back in 2021 was more than a little bizarre, when the couple stood in a bath of roses, and had a long and intimate chat together.
Yet despite the oddity of the situation, the couple did enjoy a relationship that lasted for well over a year since leaving the villa, before officially deciding to part ways in 2023, meaning their is still some hope for a romance continuing beyond the walls of the vila.
Last year’s finalists Andrew Le Page and Tasha Ghouri also enjoyed a rose filled date, when they experienced a meal while surrounded by a hedge made of the bright red blooms. They are currently still very much in love and happy together – meaning any couple facing this date still has a 50/50 chance of going the distance.
A romantic picnic
Examples: Paige & Finn, Chloe & Toby
Although perhaps not immediately at the top of the list when imagining a lavish date location, couples that are sent on a romantic picnic on the show have a very solid chance of keeping the romance alive well beyond their time on the show.
In previous years, we saw Paige Turley and Finley Tapp enjoy a tiny beach picnic together all the way back in 2020, with the couple even recently celebrating their third anniversary together.
Meanwhile 2021 stars Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran enjoyed a picture perfect romance for around 18 months, before parting ways in October 2022, meaning couples enjoying this type of date have a fighting chance at giving their relationship a meaningful go beyond the villa.
An intimate date complete with music and dancing
Examples: Jamie & Camilla, Molly-Mae & Tommy, Ekin-Su & Davide
Saving the best for last, the type of date with the biggest track record for success is an intimate fairytale style date, complete with lavish meal, music and even a romantic dance.
In fact, three of the most enduring couples to have come out of Love Island so far have enjoyed this kind of date, including Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt, who have been going strong since appearing on the show way back in 2017!
Not only are the loved up couple now married, they also have two children, with no signs of their romance diminishing anytime soon.
A similar story can also be said for Molly Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, who have been happily dating since the 2019 series of Love Island and recently welcomed her first child, baby Bambi in January.
Even last year’s winners Ekin Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti are still going strong after enjoying their final date together, with the couple currently living together and enjoying every minute of their blossoming romance.
