This is the tale of a banana in three parts – the one that got hung, the (same) one that got eaten, and the one that got replicated.
And now we have the exciting fourth edition of that famous banana.
Funny folks at Canning Town Station Underground station in London decided to put their own spin on the whole debacle, taping on the yellow fruit on a notice board.
And their joke item was up for a fraction of the price of the original.
The duct-taped piece of art on a wall was originally created by pioneer Maurizio Cattelan and was sold for $120,000 (£91,000) from Art Basel Miami Beach.
But fellow artist David Datuna didn’t care much for the hefty piece of art entitled Comedian as he decided to eat the thing.
And then to poke further fun at it, Poundland decided to introduce its own, plastic one at a much, much cheaper price.
We guess you could say the Comedian has become the comedy.
Or you could call it a global performance piece.
Commuters at Canning Town Underground station were left sniggering after spotting the fresh piece of fruit.
Staff hilariously mocked the thing, adding a sign which read: ‘Special offer. Only one week only. Only £45,000. Board not included’.
A commuter said: ‘I spotted it earlier this morning. Other people were looking at it and having a bit of a laugh as they passed through.
‘It’s quite a funny take on something so ridiculous.’
Let’s hope a peckish traveller doesn’t eat this one.
We can only wonder what the fifth edition of the story will look like, because let’s face it, there will be one.
