Vinyl records tend to come in varying levels of quality, given the periods they’ve been popular. They have seen a resurgence in recent years but originally entered the music scene in 1948. Many people will have accumulated records from the 1950s to 1980s, meaning many may require cleaning.
How do you clean vinyl records?
Vinyl records tend to stay in their sleeves but can accumulate a lot of dust and grime, especially where people use them regularly.
Many people will give them a brief wipe down, but in some cases, they may require more than this.
There are several ways for people to clean their vinyl records.
A microfibre cloth
Microfibre cloths are the first port of call for people who want to clean potentially fragile possessions.
These anti-static rags can extract dust, dirt and oils from a record without scratching it.
They’re also cheap, with most costing roughly £5 or less for a pack.
Cleaning solution
People can use purpose-built cleaning solution for stubborn marks.
Either specially manufactured bottles or home-made mixtures will do the trick.
At home, people can try mixing dish soap and water or use deionised water and .5 percent Tergitol 15-S-7 solution.

Proper storage
The best way to keep vinyl records clean is by ensuring they don’t get dirty in the first place.
People should ensure they handle the records properly with each use and store them in sleeves.
Keep them away from hot, humid, or very bright parts of the home.
A record vacuum
Record vacuums are for those with a mammoth record collection and equally mammoth income.
These can significantly reduce the time it takes to clean grubby records, but for a price.
They will come in handy for collectors who like to keep their collection high-grade for potential resell.
