Forget what you heard: Bryce Dallas Howard’s kids are the real masterminds behind Baby Yoda.
Howard, who directed “Chapter 4: Sanctuary” of “The Mandalorian,” said that her kids — 13-year-old Theodore and 8-year-old Beatrice — would come to the set and ask constantly about Baby Yoda, which led to the iconic meme of Baby Yoda sipping soup.
“My daughter would come into the editing room, and she was 6 at the time, and whenever Baby wasn’t onscreen, she would lean over to me and be like, ‘Where’s Baby? Where’s Baby?’” Howard, 39, said during ATX TV … from the Couch on Friday, adding that the show’s creator Jon Favreau picked up Beatrice’s fixation.
“Jon was like, ‘If the kid is wondering, where’s Baby? We need to know where Baby is at all times,’” she continued. “There was something with kids where Baby was very real, and Baby was in danger and they just needed to see what Baby was doing at all times, and if not, you needed to really know Baby was safe.”
Favreau chimed in that he is still shocked that, despite all the children on the set of the hit Disney+ series, the secret of Baby Yoda was never leaked before the series came out.
“I would remind my kids every day, once they were going to school, every day, ‘What do we not talk about?’ ‘Baby!’” he said.
During the virtual panel, which included all the directors from Season 1, Favreau remained tight-lipped on Season 2 but, but did note that it’s still on track for an October 2020 release date.
