In Hawkeye Episode 3, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) told Maya Lopez that Black Widow killed Ronin. Fans thought this seemed like a strange move, considering Natasha Romanov barely interacted with Clint as Ronin in Avengers: Endgame. However, his reason for telling Echo that she killed Ronin came from a much more emotional place than some fans might expect.

When in ‘Hawkeye’ Episode 3 did Clint tell Maya Lopez, aka Echo that Black Widow killed Ronin

In Hawkeye Episode 3, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) sat captured by the Tracksuit Mafia. After Maya Lopez noticed Clint’s hearing aid, she had his bonds cut so they could sign to each other.

She questioned Clint about Ronin, stating that they believed Kate Bishop to have fought the criminal underworld during the five-year skip in Avengers: Endgame. Clint, however, tells her that someone killed Ronin.

When Maya asked who carried out the alleged act, Clint said Black Widow.

However, to some fans, this claim did not make much sense. Clint was still very much alive, and he and Natasha Romanov remained close friends until her death (even during Captain America: Civil War). Why did he claim that Black Widow killed Ronin in Hawkeye?

What did Clint Barton mean by telling Maya Lopez that Black Widow killed Ronin in ‘Hawkeye’ Episode 3?

Maya Lopez did not buy Clint Barton’s claims that Black Widow killed Ronin. However, as Obi-Wan Kenobi might say, Clint told the truth “from a certain point of view.”

After Thanos snapped and his entire family disappeared, Clint rampaged through the criminal underworld. He committed his fair share of unsavory acts. However, Black Widow approached Hawkeye in Japan and offered him a chance at redemption.

When the pair went to the distant planet Vormir to retrieve the Soul Stone, they faced a difficult decision. To obtain the stone, one of them had to sacrifice themselves. After a tense battle, Black Widow willingly allowed herself to die.

Her sacrifice was so Clint could redeem himself, save the world, and most importantly, his family.

While Clint Barton thought his Ronin days were behind him, Kate Bishop donning the costume to fight the Tracksuit Mafia brought his actions back to the forefront.

He fights desperately not to save the world but simply to make it home in time for Christmas. Part of Black Widow ‘killing’ Ronin involved Clint Barton living with his family.

And Black Widow could have an even more significant impact beyond Hawkeye Episode 3. Murmurs about Natasha’s sister, Yelena (Florence Pugh), appearing in the Disney+ show, has circulated the internet.

Hopefully, Clint didn’t accidentally tell the future only for a different Black Widow to kill Ronin in Hawkeye.

Kate Bishop, Clint, and Lucky the Pizza Dog battle villains and try to unravel the holiday plot involving Jack and Armand Duquesne. Clint just hopes they can wrap it all up with a bow by Christmas day.
