  • In the first few minutes of the primetime sit-down, Meghan accused Kate of making her cry before her wedding to Harry in May 2018
  • When Harry returned to the UK earlier this month to attend Prince Philip’s funeral, he is understood to have spoken with William and Charles
  • Sources said that the talks were ‘unproductive’, while royal biographer Duncan Larcombe has now claimed that Harry is ’embarrassed’ by the interview

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘privately’ extended their congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their tenth wedding anniversary.

A California-based spokesperson for the Sussexes, confirmed to The Daily Beast that the couple reached out to William and Kate in honor of their marriage milestone – however the insider did not share any other information about the message that they sent.

Prince William, 38, and Kate Middleton, 39, publicly marked their anniversary by sharing two new portraits and a sweet family video, and they also received social media messages from members of the royal family, including the Queen, and Prince Charles and Camilla.

However Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, have not thus far extended a public message to the couple, despite offering congratulations in private.

It may well be that the Sussexes took the opportunity to extend an olive branch to the Cambridges on their special day – which comes amid a serious rift between the two couples in the wake of Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

Making amends? Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘privately congratulated’ Prince William and Kate Middleton on their tenth wedding anniversary, a spokesperson has confirmed

Celebration: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge marked the marriage milestone on Thursday by releasing two new portraits, as well as a sweet family video featuring their three children

In the opening minutes of the primetime sit-down, Meghan accused Kate of making her cry in the lead-up to her May 2018 wedding to Prince Harry – shutting down long-running reports that it was Meghan who made the Duchess of Cambridge cry over an argument about bridesmaids dresses.

‘[Kate] was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologized. And she brought me flowers,’ Meghan told the TV mogul.

The allegation was one of several damaging claims made during the interview – the most serious of which saw Harry and Meghan accusing an unnamed member of the royal family of questioning how ‘dark’ their son Archie’s skin would be before his birth.

Prior to the Oprah interview, details of a rift between once-close brothers William and Harry were already being widely reported, however it is understood that relations between the siblings have become increasingly strained as a result of the broadcast, which was aired while the late Prince Philip was in hospital recovering from heart surgery.

Harry reportedly spoke with his brother and his father Prince Charles when he returned to the UK for Prince Philip’s funeral earlier this month, however the talks are said to have been ‘unproductive’.

It has now been claimed by royal expert Duncan Larcombe, author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story, that Harry is feeling ‘regretful and embarrassed’ by his decision to take part in the Oprah interview, and he only agreed to the sit-down because he was ‘hurt and angry’ about the way his wife was treated by the royals.

Speaking to Closer magazine, Duncan said Harry has a tendency to act on impulse and recalled a time when the prince ‘flew off the handle’ at him following a misunderstanding at Peter Phillips’ stag do in 2008.

Duncan told how he explained to William and Harry that he wouldn’t get in their way while covering the event, and would liaise with them about the story he’d run.

During the weekend, he said the Duke of Cambridge invited him to join them for a drink in the beer garden, but Harry was ‘livid’ thinking he’d snuck in there on the sly.

‘He’s a hot-headed guy, he acts on his emotions,’ Duncan told Closer. ‘He saw red and we had a row – but after William explained, he calmed down, apologized and we had a beer.’

Duncan added that he believes a ‘similar thing happened’ when it came to the Oprah Winfrey interview last month, in which Harry and Meghan claimed Charles and William are ‘trapped’ in ‘The Firm’ and accused the royals of institutional racism, alleging one member of the family questioned what color their son Archie’s skin would be.

‘Harry was clearly hurt and angry about Meghan’s experience with the royals – and used the interview to get it out,’ Duncan said. ‘But after returning home, I’ve no doubt he’s been feeling embarrassed, regretful and awkward. He’s now facing the consequences. I believe he’ll regret that interview – and maybe his decision to leave the Royal Family.’

The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK to attend Prince Philip’s funeral on April 17, after stepping down as a senior royal in January 2020 and subsequently having his titles stripped by the Queen.

Details: Duncan Larcombe, author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story (pictured with Harry in 2008 in Buthe Buthe, Lesotho), has said that the Duke of Sussex feels ‘regretful and embarrassed’ by his Oprah interview

He flew back to California, where he now resides in a $14.5 million Montecito mansion with Meghan, who is pregnant with their second child, days later, missing the Queen’s 95th birthday on April 21.

Duncan said he’d heard Harry felt ‘numb’ heading back to LA and had ‘mixed emotions’ about seeing his family again at Prince Philip’s funeral, which reminded him of ‘everything he’s sacrificed’ in recent years and made him feel ‘nostalgic’ for his old life.

Meanwhile, he alleged, Meghan is ‘in her element’ living her LA dream, and he fears Harry will struggle to live harmoniously as part of these two worlds.

‘He’s in for a very difficult ride. There could be tough times ahead,’ Duncan said.

William and Harry are expected to meet again in the summer when they unveil a new statue to Princess Diana at Kensington Palace.

Insiders hope the July 1 event – done to commemorate what would have been their mother’s 60th birthday – will help mend their relationship.

Though earlier this week royal expert Russell Myers questioned whether the visit will take place, commenting: ‘Some quarters of the family did give him a frosty reception and perhaps that did shock him somewhat.’

He went on to say how the Duke of Sussex may use the birth of his daughter, who is expected to arrive in the summer, as a ‘convenient excuse’ not to ‘face the family’.

According to a new poll, the Sussexes’ approval ratings have fallen again to their lowest-ever levels following Prince Philip’s funeral.
