Once the estate of Santa Monica founder Sen. John P. Jones, the luxe seaside Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows — featuring a palm-shaded pool, chic restaurant Fig and a spread of posh private bungalows — has played host to such golden-era Hollywood luminaries as Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe and Jimmy Stewart. Presidents John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton have likewise visited the historic, plush hotel, which opened its doors in 1921 and ushers in its 100th birthday this month with a revamped lobby lounge and library courtesy of Household Design, a new oceanfront bar and snack enclave named Georgina’s, and Airstream by Fig, an on-site 1986 silver Airstream trailer serving up an array of satisfying Santa Monica beach cuisine.

With its full-service Exhale spa (Arnold Schwarzenegger has been known to flex his muscles here) and sprawling gardens exploding with irises and bougainvillea, the iconic property’s centerpiece remains its 80-foot-high Moreton Bay fig tree, planted in the 1880s and standing majestically in the bucolic front courtyard.

Since the Fairmont Hotel & Bungalows’ birthday also corresponds to Pride month, the resort will showcase various pride-centric activities and programming starting this June and running throughout the coming year. Working alongside SaMo Pride’s Rainbow Road Art Walk, which runs June 4-30, and local nonprofit org Allies in Arts, the Fairmont Hotel has recruited LGBTQ+ artist Tim Devlin to create a “Pride-a-Blooma” floral-based piece installation to be displayed inside the hotel’s shopping promenade. The hotel will also offer up a purple-hued, Pride-themed cocktail that will benefit the Liberty Hill Foundation, an LA-based nonprofit org that supports social justice endeavors.
