Two days before his record-breaking concerts at the MCG, English pop star Ed Sheeran thrilled young fans with a pop-up show on Tuesday afternoon at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital.
Surgeon Eric Levi tweeted a photo of Sheeran’s appearance at the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. “Thanks Ed Sheeran for the quietest few minutes of our day. No pages. No calls. No referrals,” he wrote.
Sheeran will play to more than 107,000 people on Friday night, smashing the Australian record for the most concert tickets sold to a single performance.
Tickets are still available to see Sheeran on Thursday night, when more than 100,000 have already booked a spot to see the multiple Grammy Award winner live on stage.

Mushroom Group chief executive officer Matt Gudinski said Sheeran loved to break a record.
“It’s phenomenal that more than 200,000 people will see this amazing show at our iconic MCG,” he said in a statement released on Tuesday. “Melbourne is set for two incredibly special nights with one of the greatest performers ever.”
