Determined dads set up a style school to learn how to put their daughters’ hair in buns, braids or ponytails.

The “Hair Ninjas” meet once a month for lessons with stylist Maria Smith.

Some are now so good they have mastered grand designs, including a Christmas tree.

Maria said: “The children really love it. The bond it creates is incredible.”

Jack Woodhams, who has a four-year-old daughter, set up the scheme for dads in York.

He said: “The idea came from when my daughter was having unicorn party.

“Maria did all the girls unicorn hair and I thought, ‘Well, I really want to get lessons just combing my daughter’s hair without her crying.”

Maria said: “The girls come back saying, ‘My teacher said how lovely my hair was and it was, Did you your mummy do it? and it’s like No, my daddy did it’.”

One of the dads, Esa Celik said: “We’re not the same dads since we met Maria…we’re all in the same boat, we’re all dads, with girls.

"My biggest dream is to do my daughter’s hair when she gets married.”

Geoff Marchment has become quite expert. He said: “I’ve been practising an angel and Rudolph this week.

“I like the time I get to spend with my daughter.”

Mike Hewitt, whose daughter is three, said: “It’s nice to have time, just me and her, in the morning, talking about what hair she wants. that day.”
