Swimsuit model Megan McGarrah got called by Maxim France to a photo shoot in Tahiti last week. But after the pandemic hit the US hard, she decided to stay on the island.

A week and a half ago, I left for a last-minute job. On my second day here, the producer started talking about sending me home already because of flights being canceled. If I stayed I might end up getting stuck here longer than intended. Another model, Katie, and I decided to take that risk.

All of my friends in the US are sending me pictures of people fighting in stores over toilet paper. I’ll be coming back to what feels like the end of the world, and I’d rather stay away from it.

Supposedly there have only been a handful of diagnosed cases [of COVID-19] in Tahiti. I’m staying in a lovely house up in the hills with a beautiful infinity pool and a view of the ocean. We’ll go to the beach, take some photos, maybe have some piña coladas.

You could live off the island here, so I’ve been eating a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. The restaurants are still open. They are starting to close down the gym and the bars, though. Once that happens, we’ll stick to the beach or the pool, and we’ll play guitar and sing for fun.

Still, I’ve been thinking about my dog and cat back home in Los Angeles, who are staying with a friend, and my family in Kentucky, who I keep reminding to stay safe. I’ve been thinking about how I’m going to make rent, too. Right now, though, I’m in paradise, so I’m trying not to stress too much about those things.
