We’ve all got pet peeves whether its your partner leaving their tea bags in the sink or your sibling never hanging the towel on the radiator correctly.
But, one thing that gets on many people's last nerve actually turns out to have a solid reason behind it – and we’ll bet you didn’t know about it.
An anonymous husband posted a snap of a carton of eggs in the Casual UK forum on Reddit showing the half full box of eggs also contained some empty eggshells.
And, we all know someone who shoves the cracked shells back into the carton when cooking (cough, it’s me, cough).
He captioned the snap: “Does anyone else's missus do this? Does my head in.
“‘The bin was full’ is not a valid reason.”
Hundreds of Brits weighed in on the subject claiming they also had an eggshell stashing person in the family.
One person noted: “This and toast crumb knife back in the butter are grounds for divorce!”
“Don't forget the wet spoon in the sugar,” replied another.
While a third said: “‘The bin was full,’ then f***ing empty it.”
Another laughed: “Do we have the same wife?”
But, it seems there is actually a logical reason why many of us do this – even when we’re just copying what our mums once did without knowing why.
An in-the-know Brit said: “Bruh, it’s good plant fertiliser and that’s why she’s storing it.”

To which another person replied: “Yeah. Leave them to dry somewhere so they crush more easily before you add them to the compost pile.
“In the carton is as good a drying place as any.”
But, despite this easy reason behind the habit lots of Brits still fumed about it.
One bloke joked: “Shells in the same box as unused ones is total barbarism.
“Should be banned by a Geneva convention. Or a Hague trial. Or an old charter or something.
“Worse, it's D***ed Bad Manners.”
