Over the past decade the Duchess of Cambridge has established herself as a royal style icon, wowing us with one outfit after another.
But while she often embraces designer clothing from the likes of Jenny Packham and Alexander McQueen, Kate is as much a fan of the high street as the rest of us, and is often seen wearing pieces from some of our favourite stores – many of which go on to sell out as a result.
From Zara to Boden, to LK Bennett and even Marks & Spencer, Kate wears them all well, no matter what the occasion.
Here, Metro.co.uk takes a look back through some of the Duchess’s favourite high street brands and where she wore them.
Zara
The Duchess has been seen wearing Zara pieces on a number of occasions, with notable pieces including the £17.99 bejewelled headband she was seen wearing at the Festival of Remembrance Service in November 2019.
She also embraced the high street giant when she dressed in the colours of the Danish flag for a trip to Copenhagen, attracting particular attention for a bright red Zara blazer with gold buttons.
Kate was also seen wearing the same £59 jacket at Wembley Stadium in June 2021, when she and Prince William attended England’s Euro 2020 clash against Germany.
The blazer sold out rapidly after she was seen wearing it in Denmark, although you can buy a similar version at Zara’s website.
Jigsaw
The Duchess once worked for high street brand Jigsaw as an accessories buyer prior to entering royal life, and to this day she is still wearing clothes from the store.
In fact, she’s been seen in Jigsaw clothing as recently as January 2022, when she donned a pair of their navy wide-legged trousers.
Kate teamed them with a contrasting blue Jigsaw coat for a visit to London’s Foundling Museum.
Although the exact items are longer available on the website, you can find a similar pair of Jigsaw trousers for £130 here, and a coat for £228 here.
Whistles
High street brand Whistles played a pivotal role in Kate’s life, as she was wearing one of their blouses – a £125 ivory silk blouse with a frill detail – in her official engagement photo with Prince William in 2010.
It’s not the only time the blouse has been seen, however – as the Duchess dug it out once again for a 2021 video in which she spoke to finalists of the Hold Still lockdown photo competition.
You can buy a similar Whistles blouse for £109 here.
Boden
Kate has been seen in Boden pieces on a number of occasions over the past couple of years – even turning to the brand during her pregnancy with Prince Louis, when she was seen wearing a stylish £220 red coat over her bump.
Although the exact coat is no longer available, you can get your hands on an alternative red Boden coat for £154 here.
Kate has also chosen the brand during the pandemic era, wearing a blue Boden cardigan during a call with NHS workers in November 2020, and a pale pink pussy-bow Boden blouse for a video appearance on International Women’s Day in March 2021.
The brand also served her well when she wore a pink scalloped sweater as part of her outfit just three days later, making her first public appearance of 2021 at a school in Stratford.
LK Bennett
It’s well-known that Kate is a huge fan of LK Bennett, having frequently been spotted in their midi dresses, coats and shoes.
She also wore this polka dot frock of theirs for a visit to a children’s hospital back in 2018 – causing the dress to understandably sell out.
Although you can’t buy the exact dress online, you can get your hands on a similar one from LK Bennett for £279 here.
Another LK Bennett favourite, a pink floral number Kate wore to the The King Power Royal Charity Polo Day in 2019, sold out repeatedly after the Duchess was seen in it.
The good news is it’s still available even now from their website, priced £279.
Gap
The Duchess might have favoured the likes of Whistles and Jigsaw on the high street front, but has also peppered her wardrobe with items from the likes of Gap in the past.
Most notably, Kate wore patterned blue Gap trousers on a trip to the Scilly Isles and Cornwall with Prince William in 2016, with eagle-eyed Twitter users quickly identifying where they were from.
She teamed the £21.99 pants with a navy blazer and nude wedges.
Seraphine
Kate was frequently seen in maternity brand Seraphine during her pregnancies, including in 2018 when she was expecting youngest son Louis.
The Duchess wore the brand during her first joint official engagement with Meghan Markle at London’s Royal Forum Foundation that year, looking stylish in a royal blue knee length dress with three quarter length sleeves.
‘It is a great honour for Seraphine that The Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear our clothes throughout her pregnancies,’ Chelsey Olivier, Seraphine’s Creative and Brand Director, told metro.co.uk
The highlight and source of real pride for me and the brand was when The Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear our Pink Fuchsia Knot Front Maternity Dress for the first official portrait with Prince George.
‘Many pieces that Kate favoured are still available to buy such as our Lavender Blossom Knot Front Maternity Dress, Black Long Sleeve High Neck Maternity Dress, Marlene Maternity Cocktail Dress, Natasha Cashmere Blend Maternity Coat, and Marina Maternity Coat – offering a mixture of everyday and occasion wear focused pieces for mums to be who want to follow the Duchess of Cambridge’s stylish lead in their pregnancy.‘
Superga
We’re all used to seeing Kate in heels, but when the Duchess swaps them for flats she is often seen in a pair of trainers from Italian shoe brand Superga – specifically the Cotu classic shoes, which you can buy in a variety of colours for £57.
Kate tends to favour the white shoes – which she has been spotted wearing at casual events on a number of occasions – but was also seen wearing a green pair in a behind-the-scenes shot of her working on her own garden for the 2020 Chelsea Flower Show.
She’s not the only royal to embrace the brand either – Princess Diana was known to be a fan of the shoes, and was seen wearing them in navy during a trip to Angola in 1997.
Marks & Spencer
While Kate might be a fan of Superga trainers, that’s not the only brand she’s been seen wearing – as she also has Marks and Spencer shoes in her wardrobe.
The Duchess was spotted wearing a pair of white Ribbon Detail lace-up trainers, costing £29.50, from the high street giant when she paid a visit to the London Stadium in February 2020.
Understandably it sparked a buying frenzy with the shoes – which are no longer available from M&S – selling out quickly.
But that hasn’t been Kate’s only brush with the chain – as she famously wore a blue floral print M&S midi dress in June 2020 while hosting a virtual school assembly during lockdown.
&Otherstories
Scandinavian brand &OtherStories took centre stage in 2019 when Kate wore one of their dresses to the Chelsea Flower Show, sharing snaps of her with the family.
The floral midi dress – which reportedly cost less than £100 – understandably flew off the shelves after the Duchess was seen wearing it.
The bad news is that the dress is no longer available to buy but the good news is that Boden has a dupe on its website for £52. You’re welcome.
Kate has also been spotted wearing jeans from &OtherStories, donning a pair when she received her Covid-19 vaccine last year, as well as when she paid a visit to the Natural History Museum in June 2021.
Hobbs
High street favourite Hobbs is also on Kate’s radar, with the royal most recently wearing a berry-pink coat when she visited a school in Harrow in November 2021, which she teamed with a matching pink sweater from the retailer.
The jumper has since sold out but if you want to bag one of the coats for yourself, it was still available on the site for £219 as of February 2022.
Reiss
Kate helped give retailers Reiss a popularity boost back in the early years of her marriage.
As well as wearing one of their white dresses in her engagement photos to Prince William, she has also embraced their style more recently, wearing a cream coloured double breasted blazer from the chain when she visited RAF Brize Norton in late 2021.
