A KEEN decorating fan has shared her top tip for painting furniture around your home – and all you need is an odd sock.
Marley, who describes herself as a “DIY home decorator”, said she’d come to rely on the handy hack over the past few years and why a simple paint brush can’t achieve the same flawless finish.
And the best part about the social media user’s nifty trick is that it not only saves time, but your hands will remain clean throughout and you won’t be scrubbing paint off of your fingernails for hours afterwards.
In a new video, Marley lifted the lid on her rather unconventional painting technique and the places she uses it without fail.
She explained: “So the sock method is a painting method that I’ve been using for a few years.”
Marley then said she’d discovered it after watching a fellow painter using the wardrobe essential, and that she had been sold ever since.

She continued: “I did not invent this but it works super well.”
Marley then shed light on exactly how it’s done, as she went on to say: “Basically you just take a disposable glove and put that on your hand, and then top it with a clean sock.”
Further stressing how important it is that it “needs to be clean”, Marley then shared the next part of the painting process.
In the video posted to her TikTok account @marley.makes.things, the influencer said: “And then you just dip your sock into the paint and then rub it on your surface.”

As Marley spoke, footage of her doing the very technique played in the background, as she showed herself covering the sock in a dark green paint and applying it to an oak coloured, wooden table.
As it seamlessly went onto the piece of furniture with minimal effort, Marley continued: “It works really well for getting a very smooth coat of paint without any brush strokes.”
The interior fan then explained how she has mainly used the technique on the furniture in her home – but that it also helped her to transform her stairway and bannisters.
She told her 526.8k followers: “I typically use this for painting furniture.
“But I also used it for painting my railings, which I highly recommend because it gets in and out of all the little crevices and shows no brush strokes.”
She then showed the final result and how the black shade had totally coated the previously grey wooden railings.
But Marley isn’t the only one getting in on the action, as others have also been raving about the sneaky technique for a few months.
Plenty of other social media users have also got in on the action and explained why they have ditched a roller or a brush in favour of the simple sock.
One person who also decided to paint their stairs using the method defended it to critics, as they wrote: “It takes forever painting a bannister. A sock is 20 times quicker, so there.”
