Sophie, Countess of Wessex joined the Royal Family when she married Prince Edward, 56, in 1999. Twelve years later, Kate Middleton and Prince William, 37, tied the knot at Westminster Abbey. Since then, the Countess could have inspired Kate to show her growing importance in the family.

  • Sophie, Countess of Wessex made change after George’s birth

Since joining the Royal Family, Sophie has worked on behalf of the monarch.

However, some royal enthusiasts believe she has been taking on more duties over the last couple of years.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Kate Stacey, buyer at Pure Collection, explained how Sophie may have confirmed this with her style choices.

Kate said: “The Countess of Wessex also appears to have made more bold fashion choices in recent years, favouring eye-catching patterns and bold colour combinations.

“She has undergone nothing short of a style transformation in recent years, moving away from pastel hues and unflattering lengths, she has turned to chic, simple dressing.”

By shaking up her wardrobe, the royal could have hinted at her royal role becoming more important, the expert claimed.

“Unafraid to experiment with block colours, it seems Sophie is happy to stand out,” Kate continued.

“Perhaps this has been intentional and mirrors how her role in the Royal Family is changing.”

Kate Middleton joined the Royal Family in 2011 and also began working as a senior member of the family.

Before carrying out duties, it is likely the Duchess of Cambridge looked to other royals for advice.

Like Sophie, it is also thought Kate has taken on a bigger workload over the last few months.

Even while self-isolating, the mother-of-three has made virtual visits by video call.

Kate appears to have taken inspiration from Sophie and used her fashion to reflect her role.

“The Duchess of Cambridge’s style has undoubtedly evolved as her royal duties have increased in both their frequency and importance,” Kate continued.

“She is carrying a great weight of responsibility in 2020, as both a mother and leading royal. She has to dress the part.”

The Duchess of Cambridge has made small changes to her wardrobe that line up with her increasing duties.

The expert continued: “Kate now embraces an impeccably elegant way of dressing.

“This is simple, it consists of well-cut jumpers in premium fabrics and denim for more casual duties. Kate is fond of championing British brands and she chooses well.

“The items she wears sell out within minutes – labelled the Kate-effect’.”

No matter what the reason for their changing looks, both Kate and Sophie are often praised on their style whenever they step out.
